Back to bicycles.

Post by Gibbo2286 »

There was a run of bicycle pics earlier, can't remember which thread but I thought I'd post this.
I was looking for info on a road I lived in back in the 50s, Potter's Hill in Birmingham, now gone the way of redevelopment. came across this:

Nice :D An early recumbent bike...

I used to see a few around here but not seen one for ages now... They never really took off for whatever reason...

Not as dangerous as the old penny farthing Dave. Not as far to fall. :)

True :)

The main reason they have not taken off is because the UCI have never allowed them in competition.

Many radical bike designs have failed for the same reason...

Viewing a couple on the road, I have to presume that most of the riders were killed off :? . Cycling on winding country roads with tall grass verges and sporting a "flag" on an aerial; due to forward motion rendered it the thickness of the material(!!) was bl...y dangerous in my view. The riders were lying almost horizontal and could not be seen at all for the grass  . They were an accident waiting to happen :x . I very nearly hit one many years ago; not at all a happy experience  and I was only doing 30ish...
