Citroen C5 2009 May I use the same alloy wheel bolt on a steel wheel?

For this winter I have a set of wheels mounted on steel wheel and my question is I can use the same bolt from my standard alloy wheels or I have to use some special bolts?
These are the bolts I have now

I do not think so. Steel rims are thinner than alloys, so the bolts may well foul the brakes. If you have a steel spare you will see it has spacers fitted to the inside of the rim. Saying that, if I am right you could always take a trip to your local scrapyard and see if you can find a C5 with steel wheels, and purchase the bolts from it.

My spare steels have a captive bolt spacer to allow the use of the OEM (alloy's) bolts..........

From what I've seen the bolt can secure the steel wheel to but I don't know if it is secure for a longer period of time

There's no reason mechanically why it should not be secure. There's a taper on the bolt which is mating against a tapered hole on the wheel.

IIRC the spare wheel on C5s with alloy wheels is also alloy, albeit one made to look like a standard steel wheel. That's probably why the hole for the bolt is reinforced - it's still a tapered hole though. I've not seen one of the wheels as fitted to base model LXs (they have a wheel trim to pretty it up) so I don't know whether it's alloy or steel but I would imagine that, provided the bolt doesn't bottom out in the hub, it should be fine.

I should clarify that the wheels I am referring to were on the Mk1 C5 but I see reason why this should not also apply to the Mk3.

There is a "different" 17" spare wheel in my Mk3 fitted with 18" alloys. But the same principle applies.

I always thought that the 'steel' spare in the boot on cars with alloys was steel, until I tried a magnet on it.

It's a VTR and has Hungaro alloys, the spare is a plain brown wheel that looks like a steel wheel but it's not steel it's alloy.

What do the bolt holes on the steel wheel look like? Some do fit those wheel nuts but usually they would need different bolts or the spacers already mentioned. I've seen metal spacers in the past but I cannot remember on which car.

I have been using my spare for a while as I bent a wheel.
Used the bolts that came out of the standard alloy.
Was on for a few weeks, swapped back again last Sunday.
No problems, no catching on anything.

This was on the front. I did the same on the rear a few years back and the bolts did foul on the caliper but that was due to corrosion between the caliper and trailing arm.

I checked the spare for my X7 whilst I was down my shed, a magnet sticks to it - so I'm guessing it's steel !!
If anyone wants to buy the spare off of me - make me an offer, I replaced it with an alloy one so all it's doing is taking up room in my shed
