If they are - yes. Do they work with the original glass or are they a clear front? Will wait for more info when all sorted methinks. Even with "night breakers" the originals are not very good; perhaps best describes a just about adequate. My deceased Mk1 lights were awful, pressing on in the dark was not on the cards at all - as you will know  . The main to dip on B roads could be frightening  .

I think black would suit your car best Alasdair, or any darker colour. The silver ones only on lighter colours.

FYI.....yes, I will need clear glass, this made by Vac forming over a "master" cast from the inside of the glass. All the flutes will be filled on this and sanded smooth before the vac form. The main plug is made but I have yet to do the filling and sanding. (Grind and polish did not work, I tried but jee-ss it is hard work, so I failed/gave up on that )

The black look came about due to the modelling board I am using during all the faffing about fitting (2mm clearance+ 1mm top and bottom) the front plate as well as working out minimal cutting of the lamp box at the rear, it just looks good (I think). The front plate and the side fillets will be professionally cut with a water jet using stainless steel 1.5mm, it will be removable to allow adjustment of the lamp units, this can then be left as is, polished to a shine or painted black/any colour.

Alasdair if you want some prototypes flow jetted get me some cad over fairly soon. I have access to a Mach 3 water Jet until the end of December. I can use it for free but pay for material at cost.

James....I will take you up on that thank you.

I will ask a friend to do a cad drawing of the front plate and the side fillets. I want to use steel as the plate is very thin above and below the lamp units and alloy will bend very easy there, what thickness do you recommend ?

I am quite keen on black myself Jim, that look can be obtained with a black primer :)

I'm not sure about the thickness, I maintain rather than operate the machines. I can do you a couple if thicknesses if you like. The water jet is prity indiscriminate, it'll go through just about any thickness of anything, so don't worry about its feelings. I'll check stock tomorrow and let you know if there's any thin stuff for prototyping (read free).

Sorry Alasdair, brief read thought you meant Mk1 or 2 Xantia body, not actual Mk1 light templates  #-o . Pity as I would be VERY interested in a Mk2 conversion =P~ .

Nope, only Mk1's as the front plates and clear "glass" will need to be made for the Mk2 design. I have Mk 2 boxes, so will adapt the design to them and make glass "masters" once these are fully sorted. It will be a little easier on the Mk2 as the box is a very different design internally.

The reason (other than this is for my car, so tough luck ! :) ) that I am doing the Mk1 first is the lights are crappier than the Mk2 :)

Getting the masters made is just time and a few blobs of filler, then if the Mk1s are found to be wanted (by more than say 10 people), I will get the Mk2's done and offer them out for orders.

The way this will work is you source your own Hella 90mm units (there is lots of choice) and I just sell glass replacement (pre cut), faceplates and mounts etc with all the measurements and instructions that I have worked out to make them "drop-in". Once I have worked it all out and they both fit/work/adjust easy/easy to fit, I would think that a very average DIY person should be able to do the required mods with little trouble.

I'll probably be having a pair, not looking forward to Mk1 lights again now I'm used to the Scenics.
