Re: Death of another Activa now double trouble
I'd agree - plenty of good used RHZ engines out there so might as well just swap it!

Re: Death of another Activa now double trouble
It appears to need new seals. That is another reason the blue Activa is going off road. As i need to do so many different things and that will take time.

Re: Death of another Activa now double trouble
I would aim at twos days to swap a HDI engine and make sure it all fires up, don't forget he Xantia is t like the normal pugs and fords most mechanics deal with and a hydraulic clutch. I hope you have a clutch on order as well as they aren't much, as well as a belt and pump kit!!!!

Re: Death of another Activa now double trouble
The timing belt kit is all ordered. Not sure what to do about the clutch as it seems really good the one that is in. However, yes i do see your point. Is it a case of engine and box out together or can they be easily separated. As i intend to do most of the stripping out myself, ready at the end of the month to do the big swop.

Re: Death of another Activa now double trouble
Maybe ask Paris when you speak to them as I haven't ever done or seen one that I can think of but if it's like the petrols I think it's get all the airbox and pipe work out of the way at the top and anything touching the engine, then split engine and box being mindful of the precautions Jim/Paul will give about the hydro clutch pipework and slave cylinder, and pull the engine tall block out the top.
I'd also warn that you'll want some spare litres of LHM on hand and decent coolant at least to the same spec or higher than the original citrogel. Take the chance to pull the rad out and flush it and clean it the aircondensor and intercooler of crap.
Do be warned as well that you'll either want loads of old carpet tiles under the car or somewhere you don't mind being trashed with varying different oily liquids!

Does anyone know if the hdi engine from an automatic will fit in a manual.

Re: Death of another Activa now double trouble
Yes they should but the auto ones only ever got the hdi90 engine. You'd probably want the hdi90 manual ecu as well and make sure the gearbox is the correct type as the two different hdi engines had two different boxes and clutch setups iirc.

Thanks for that. Am now somewhat puzzled as the engine i was about to get says auto on one of the pictures but the add says it is an rhz engine code.

Re: Death of another Activa now double trouble
Well engine going in to the hdi exclusive tomorrow. Finally things are progressing . why do i always do these things so close to Christmas.
Blue Activa slowly dying but not dead yet. The engine performed excellent last week. My mate and i went to pick his new scooby up from Chesterfield and had a little race back. Obviously not flat out, wouldn't want to show him up lol;-). But seriously blue thunder will soon be put away in the garage until time & money can be found for her.
When she is put to bed & the hdi is up & running. I think it will be time for the silver fox to come out & have some fun with at weekends. Brakes & the rust hole in the back wing seems to be all it will need plus tyre's for it's mot.

You must not let the blue one die.... Activas are now getting too rare to sustain any more losses

Does anybody know where there might be a breeding pair? Maybe they will need to nest near (but are not denizens of) a scrap yard where they can feed and provide food for their young.CitroJim wrote:You must not let the blue one die.... Activas are now getting too rare to sustain any more losses

Re: Death of another Activa now double trouble
Don't be mistaken Jim it will be back on the road within 12 months. Just time & money are tight. Enjoying the engine exchange on the hdi though. Not been mechanical minded my mate has been at hand.
Is it mad that i am enjoying the job of crawling under a car & getting cold, full of oil, hydraulic fluid & alike. It just seems to be a sense of accomplishment every time i managed to get something undone. Not quite out yet but getting close. Engine crane in position for tomorrow. Then move bits needed from my old engine to new one. New clutch & alike to fit then new one in hopefully by this time next week.

Re: Death of another Activa now double trouble
I used to feel that sense of accomplishment. It was always a needs must situation though.
I vividly recall having to dig my way to the Volvo buried in snow to change the engine mounts, needed the car the next morning so there was no putting it off.
And replacing every single hydraulic pipe on the GS. The pipes cost more than I paid for the car.
It takes me all my time to clean the windscreen now

So, don't worry, if it feels good, you enjoy it and it does you good then do it!
