306 XSI AutoWiper?

Unread post by Linchpin »

Someone tells me my 306 should have some sort of auto wiper system? When i put the wipers on Intermittant, they just are normal (intermittant as on any other car) but i do get a yellow light on outside the car (on the screen, behind my mirror). Now one thing i have noticed, is that if i put the wipers on intermittant, then shut off the ignition, restart it all the wipers sit there and do nothing.
Any idea's where to start? This sounds like a cool feature so I'd like to get it sorted.

Kev, I suspect you are thinking of the rainsensor system. The area behind your mirror detects rain drops and sweeps the wipers according to how dense the raindrops are. Try spraying the area with a little water when you think the system should be operating, ie with the light on. Uncertain here but I think you have to leave the wipers on intermittent for it to operate. Others will correct us if I am wrong. R

On my 406 you have to flick it to intermittent, then back to 'off'. Once the rain is at the level where you need a wipe flick it back to intermittent again and the wipers automatically flick once that level of rain has built up.
In actual practice, it's speed sensitive as well so it wipes more if you go faster and all but stops if you slow down. It's a pain and I rarely bother as by the time it's set up to your satisfaction you've arrived.

Aha! So thats how it works! I have been sticking mine on Intermittant, the light comes on and leaving it there... :-D
So in essence, you need to "show it" where the rain is each time. Cool :-D

Hmm didnt work. According to the handbook, on my XSI you just need to put it to intermittant. I always get the same speed wipe tho?

Ok not Pug but Reno. Start car (in rain) put wipers on to intermitent then drive away and put the wipers on the regular wipe. As you pull up at a set of lights for example they automaticaly go to intermitent.
