Can anyone tell me if there are any parts that are interchangeable between the XUD9 and the TUD5 engines? (for example, cam belts, glow plugs, oil filter etc..). I am looking for such possibilities as I have an XUD9 in my 309GLD and in India, the TUD5 is available in other cars and there is no XUD9 around and getting things for the XUD9 is rather difficult.

Both the XUD9 diesels and the TUD5 use timing belts of 136 teeth length.
However, the tooth profile on the TUD5 belt is different. Although you could fit the TUD5 Belt to an XUD9 and vicea versa, people who have tried to save money by fitting an XUD9 belt to TUD5's have found to their cost that the belt breaks after a few thousand miles.
The same applies to the XU7JP4 1.8 16v and XU10J4R 2.0 16v engine, which again have 136 teeth but a completely diffrent tooth profile.

Thanks a lot Jon. Great help!! I am planning to order some parts soon from Andyspares, so, till then, I will put on a TUD5 belt, which is easily available here as Suzukis!! and Hyundais!! here in India have the TUD5 installed!!. Moreover, I am looking out for a used but good condition TUD5 (maybe from an accidental Suzuki or Hyndai which has been bumped from the back!!) which I will interchange with the XUD9 as when the need arises. The 309GLD which was made briefly in India in 1996-98 came with the TUD5. So, fitting it will not be a problem. Even the suzukis and the Hyundais have the engine mounting the same way as was in the Pugs. Thanks again.

Timing Markings
Hey guys! Im very new on this forum and still trying to figure out how it works!
I've got a timing issue with this engine(1996 Peugeot 406 1.8 petrol 16v) XU7JP4 I had the cylinder head reconditioned after it had snapped the timing belt. The problem is the machanic can't seem to get the timing right, he did use those locking pins but when those pins are in the engine isn't at Tdc.
My question is, Aren't those pins meant to get the timing to Tdc or it isn't set at tdc with the timing pins Any help would be much appreciated
