....that particular US town population 1..Buford, famous or notorious for being the smallest town in USA was put up for auction by its only resident Don Sammons, and it was sold in April 2012 to Pham Dinh Nguyen from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

$900,000 bought the whole town by the side of Interstate-80 the transcontinental highway running from New Jersey to San Francisco.

My Nguyen's plan is for Buford to become the American hub for his PhinDeli-brand Vietnamese coffee.

Now I like the artwork on this little bit of branding for Plymouth.....as of 2013 there were nine of these at various points approaching Plymouth, don't know whether they are still there today. If there are any members from GUZZ...let us know!

PS not to be outdone Pompey has also got new "Tourist Gateway" Signs :-D

The "Tourist Gateway Signs" in the format above, no longer require Department for Transport authority as they are now automatically approved under the 2015 Traffic Signs Regulations & General Directions (TSRDG).

I like them, given the right artwork, they have a bit of the old railway poster look about them. Plymouth did the pioneering but they are beginning to crop up elsewhere.

I just hope County Durham doesn't decide it needs to put up a picture of William of St Carilef (Calais) the first Prince Bishop from 1080, fascinating though his story is. No they would have to choose a suitable image featuring the truly magnificent and well worthy of UNESCO's classification as a World Heritage Site....Durham Cathedral, the construction of which was started by Prince Bishop William :-D

Something like this

Have you ever wondered what nearly £80,000 buys you in gateway signs for a town...

If you are ever travelling to Bournemouth on the A338, just look up at the footbridge and you will see.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.75280 ... 312!8i6656

To be fair on the other side of the footbridge coming out of Bournemouth there is the message "Safe Journey" as well, and at night the signs do light up :-D .

Me too Jim, and there are literally thousands of them with work by brilliant artists and illustrators, and beyond these shores there is an equally impressive array of transport and travel artwork in many different styles.

Skegness has almost become synonymous with its iconic "Is so bracing!" travel poster image, unsurprisingly used on its "gateway" signs.

That particular artist John Hassall.

....Pintrest at times can be irritating....one of those sites you can get a look at a limited range of images before it requires you to log in to see more, but can be a treasure trove of images put together like this

238 travel posters scotland-wales-ireland

Being a fan of the travel poster, I thought I would have seen most of the posters on that collection before.....not a chance loads of new ones to me.....here's a few just for a flavour.

The "artistic"

The traditional "Picturesque"

Love the Somerset one, very stereotypical :D

I'm still trying to think of any beauty spots in Buckinghamshire and I'm failing miserably

There are none that I know of

I jest, there are a very few and they are all well hidden but I do find them when out on my bike...
