...and this would appear to be virtually spot-on split screen and wipers look right as well :) . Bedford/Duple 1960 described as Bedford SB3 Duple and "Super Vega" on the grille.

.. and this I do believe is the actual vehicle a few years ago

Image
The location is Knighton in Wales, which fits, and according to comments at the time was to be restored to a non-passenger carring purpose. Otherwise identified as 800 HYD formerly owned by Bryant and Clarke of Williton which I presume is Somerset.

Registration...800 HYD
Chassis..........Bd SB3 80549
Seating..........C41F
New...............07/1960
Body..............DU 1120/541

Now then what are the chances of any of the men or women of Somerset on this very forum having had a ride in 800 HYD in their formative years :!: :!:

Well its been a while since the old whatsthisthen has been active, so have a go at this trio with a common denominator, and see if we can find out some new stuff along the way....

A few of the dark arts of the whatsthisthen may not work with the cobbled together montage and the yellow one, with allowable artistic licence has been stretched for the purposes of the composition and the makers name from the front has been painted, and some tiny number plate adjustment has been made.

Now if anyone has ever driven any of this trio that would be one of those amazing co-incidences of the day!

If your usual Sunday papers are a bit samey maybe the Siberian Times might be nice for a change.... :-D

Especially if you like Mammoths, but no doubt its full of other articles about Siberia, which to be honest I know nothing about at all other than salt mines, the legendary cold, and pipelines and the railway which goes across it :!:

http://siberiantimes.com/science/casestudy/features/f0081-new-theory-on-why-the-woolly-mammoth-became-extinct/

Its no help with the whatsthisthen? though our Northern European vehicles come from further South, and I would be surprised if it had a classifieds section at the back with interesting motors in.

Maybe a motor from Siberia being so cold, and a waste of time putting salt on the roads would make Siberian vehicles less susceptible to corrosion? Might make an interesting episode of Wheeler Dealers sending Mike to Siberia to buy a car. :-D

I can't stand the bloke  I'd send him to Coventry...

That vehicle looks like a 4WD Austin J series or a Commer...

I guess it's an Iron Curtain job and if so, then one of the more attractive ones... Perhaps because it looks so much like the Brits that may have inspired it...

Or did Austin and Commer take their inspiration from that one?
