Wheel and Tyre help please

Hello
I am new here so sorry if this info is on here and I missed it , just bought a lovely Xantia but it has 17" alloy wheels and 205/40 profile tyres which came from a Peugeot I am told .

I don't like such a thin amount of rubber as this and wondered what other Citroen or Peugeot cars have wheels with the correct ET or offset for a Xantia maybe in a 16" or 15" which will bolt straight on.

I change between my standard 205/60x15 and aftermarket 215/45x17 which are near enough the same rolling radius. 205/40x17 would be too small and compromise ride quality too much. Sounds like those are off a pug 206 gti.

They are nice wheels but maybe not on a Xantia , was thinking of trying some 16" with 205/55/16 if I can get close to correct et but will look at your suggestion , thanks for the reply

215/45x17 doesn't hit the ride quality much, have sharper turn in and better grip noticably in the wet, but that would be because they have decent tyres on them, not nexen ditchfinders and ancient pirellis!

Standard Xantia ?, 15 inch every time. Best comfort/handling combo by far. Tyres are "part" of the suspension on a Citroen when on normal roads.
In SE London I would choose 15 inch due to road surfaces being bad .

I would agree with Alistair, 15" are the best, they are used on the XM, C5 and Peugeot 406 although the offset may be slightly different. I don't like low profile tyres especially on a car that is designed to give a good ride, defeats the object.

Would also put in a recommendation for Michelin tyres, and on standard rims, around which Citroen suspension is designed. Michelin Energy are a great tyre, and match the suspension well. Also, do not over-inflate, even by a couple of psi. Agree 100% with the two posts above.
Very personal stuff, this, so expect a long list!

I would recommend you DON'T use Hankook tyres. I have them on the front wheels of my van, and in the wet they have as much grip as a snake on a mirror (so, NONE). When I am cornering I can feel them scrabbling for grip. The previous tyres (I cannot remember the make) did not have an issue.

Cheers fellas , always use good tyres on anything I have so now looking for a set of 15" with correct et , which I read is et15 . Are these wheels easy to find or are they more common on another model . Anyone got a set for sale ?

most the psa cars of the same era have the same offsett, 15-22 is the general range, the newer models have a higher offsett 25-30,
if you can get a set of steels or alloys from a Xsara/405/6/some 206/306's had 15's/saxo etc they will bolt straight on, some of the C3/4/5 wheels will fit but may sit a little inboard as they were closer to ET25, But, depending on what you have on now wheel wise you may need bolts too, the standard psa alloys run flat seat bolts where as steelies run tapered seat (M12 x 1.25 thread),
any ford 4 stud wheels will also fit as they share the 4x108 bolt pattern, However, they run Et 35-45 so Will need spacers to fit, (the higher the number of the offset the further away from the Central point in the wheel they sit, ET0 is bang in the middle of the rim)
psa 17's Would have come with 205/55/17 fitted too,
ive just put 17's with rubber bands on mine, but i bought them for the 3 new tyres and one half worn for £80, cheaper than getting half decent pair of 15" tyres fitted! initial run out noticed no difference in comfort, they are et25 and do sit quite inboard, but as a set of spacers would cost more than i paid for the wheels and tyres, i dont think i'll bother!
