Only the asking price sticky, will the 'getting' price be anywhere near?

Actually that model wasn't at all bad. :-D

not all bad ??

Yes it was, the door/screen pillars flexed when you opened the doors, it understeered into every corner, the brakes were made of tin tops and the build quality was just dreadful.

I had a montego, bought brand new in 1990. The only thing wrong with it was it dissolved into a pile of rust two years later. It was surprisingly nice to drive.

I don't think I'd be paying £5k for that either, £750 would have me interested purely for the engine. An immaculate, low mileage Metro Turbo I'd part with £5k for though. Doubt I'll ever be finding one of them in the 21st century.

It's a very simple car, easy for your average cabbage to get their brain cells round.
That doesn't apply to Xantia (or anything Hydropneumatic for that matter), which is why the roads are rapidly becoming empty of them, and owners cannot fix or understand why they went wrong in the first place.

Down here, where 5-10 years ago Xantias were everywhere, even the scrapyards are no longer interested in them, but are sending them for immediate crushing. There is little demand for Xantia spares. Some of the yards I visited this week (almost a dozen of them) just smiled and shook their heads, as if to say 'Don't be silly'.

I think many Xantias here were purchased new on the back of previous highly successful Citroen sales. The C15 sold in vast numbers here, and ZX did well too. Many must have bought their Xantia new, only to find out the expensive way just how maintenance reliant they were as they aged. The use of cheaper non-specialist workshops didn't help, and all sorts of 'workarounds' have left their mark, plus simple neglect.

I'm with Sticky on this one , I took one of these for a test drive years ago when I had a Bx16v and there really was no comparison . Typical Rover/BL tat of the day , the Bx would run rings round it . Best thing in my opinion would be to turn up the boost and have two minutes of fun until it went bang :rofl2: . Don't even mention the Maestro turbo #-o .

Biggest issue I think they had was the typical BMC quality control of the era - so no two were ever alike.

We had a turbodiesel Montego estate as the runaround at the garage for a while (this would have been around 2005 I think), and it was actually a really nice thing to drive and that example seemed well put together.

Would love a Mk I Metro Turbo, never likely to find one though as they've all dissolved now!

I had a drive in an early one, it was almost new. I kept trying to pull away in 3rd because it had a ridiculously tight gate. I think they had a vw box in them.
