Is that a solid lump of concrete, used as the reflector?
Massive inertia, to prevent tremble?

I did used to spend vast amounts of work time in Bungay - almost Norfolk.
It's where virtually all the Harry Potter books were (are still) produced, at the largest book printer in Europe.

No, just a metalwork box basically ! The cabin just below the reflector used to rotate along with the antenna - I think it was something you had to get used to if you were an operator in the cabin !
More info on the Type 84 - along with a person on one for scale - can be found here:

Good grief. No problem getting the eggs cooked with that!
Hopefully the seats in the cabin faced the 'axle'.....

I like the quote from the Radarpages site:

"The antenna rotated at 4 rpm and the transmissions broke through on every television set for miles around! Every 15 seconds there would be a burst of white "sparkles" on the TV screen and the speaker would emit a "zzziipp" sound lasting around a second or so as the radar beam passed across the TV aerial!"

I know of somebody who was helping out at a radar test site. One new unit was not working; there were no reflections apart from the nearby steeple, which they had used for alignment purposes. My friend could see that THAT team was too busy for him to wander over, so he nipped out for a cigarette (that unit was live, but he knew the sweep was way over head height). A minute or so later he was back in the control room, when he announced he knew what the problem was. That team scoffed a bit, as he had not even looked at the electronics, but somebody else who knew my friend asked him to explain. He suggested that they leave the kit alone (but running), and come outside to have a look. Once they did, it took a few seconds for somebody to realise what was wrong, and a groan then went up. This unit had twin aerials (one for transmit, the other for receive), and they were contra rotating (which is why they only ever 'saw' the steeple). About half an hour later they were getting a few more echoes.

Yes its well secluded if you didn't know it was there you would find it hard to find, but it looks like they let the google street-view camera car, into the factory complex and onto the test track!

Just to the left of Diss, where the Aston Martin branded bike was made, is Bressingham Steam and Gardens.

Nice in itself with its narrrow guage steam railway and engines, and "three-abreast gallopers", and lovely gardens...

But also the venue for the Norwich and Norfolk Rover owners Club annual rallies

A 3500 (auto) in Monza Red, and two TC's in Almond. All Series 2.
A Cameron Green Series 1 just visible on the right.
A great spot for a rally.

Yes you could always have a go on the 3-abreast Gallopers, they even have a minor random connection with my neck of the woods! You would have to be able to cope with the G-forces generated by 6 revolutions per minute though!
Gallopers

The three-abreast Gallopers are Bressingham's centre piece. It is one of the finest to be seen anywhere. Built by Savages of Kings Lynn in 1897 and owned and operated by the Thurston family of Norfolk until 1934, the Gallopers later operated at Whitley Bay and ended up in Scotland before finding a home at Bressingham. The engine was originally built by Tidmans of Norwich but has been completely rebuilt at Bressingham. The organ - a Bruder-built, 48 keyless Chiappa - accompanies the Gallopers as they reach up to six revolutions per minute and swing out some 15 degrees.
