Help!!! My CX Again

Unread post by oli_25_uk »

Hi All,

On holiday in North Wales (amazing weather!) and my clutch cable has gone - car towed to garage but they can't find one - I've got no mobile signal and flakey internet - so hunting one down myself is a nightmare - any of you got a suggestion - or can even tell me which of the many I need.

It's a CX TGR Diesel Safari - so it's got a 5 speed manual gearbox...

Any thoughts?

That's about right - welcome to Wales!, plus the Forum is having issues again today (up and down)
Is this place any good?

I've just called them for you (01462 455280), but the main man is also on holiday - and the chap there has been totally honest and hasn't got a clue if the 5 Speed CX 83 Clutch Cable they have in stock will fit as he is only helping out.

Dimensions are: 24 x 40 x 6cm £42

I did try a quick search, but bit short of info (eg what year is car? engine type?), but couldn't find anything listed.
I'm no CX expert.

If all else fails, you could try Speedy Cables - they're now just outside Swansea/Neath/Merthyr - at least the right country.
They will make up a clutch cable from scratch, or repair.
speedycables.com, or 01639 732300.

What a way to spend a holiday! ](*,)
Convert to conventional (or Citroen?) hydraulic when you get back? Or is that heresy?

There's a chap on Angelsey with a lot of Citroen spares - mostly XM and Xantia now but I think he used to have lots of CX 25 Breaks. He's on the XM forum mostly now. Can't recall the name but someone must know who I mean!?

Just an update... The wonderful rob moss at Chevronics sorted me a cable which has now been fitted and everything is good to go...

But it has made me question my decision to have a 26 year old car as my one and only car... So it just might be up for sale in the near future... So if anyone wants to make me an offer for an brilliant nick, just over 100k red CX Safari Tgd I'd be interested in hearing from them...

Glad it all worked out. I have to agree, owning an old car as your only mode of transport can be tricky, although newer cars are certainly not exempt from leaving you stranded in my experience. That's why I run 3, 1 of them is usually fine!

Anyway, I've always wanted a CX, they were the car that got me into Citroens initially. When you make the decision, could you put up some photos and I will see if a CX is worth the agro from SWMBO :-D

One compensation is that you don't normally need a degree in digital electronics to maintain them.
I still remain unimpressed by the idea of a clutch cable through. Hydraulics go round corners better.

CX Safari, and diesel, is quite tempting, though . . . No, I mustn't.

I was running about in a 2.4 Petrol Injection CX Prestige C-Matic (long wheel base) when I was in my early 20s in London (the one where you could have a disco in the back) - kept me permanently poor. I THINK I remember getting change froma £20 note after filling her up from empty! - Just.. But I loved her so much didnt care!

You could tell it was the 70s - a cigarette lighter and ashtray on both rear doors!
