While I should give Linux a try, I do not have the space to set up a second computer, and the game I play a LOT does not (yet, at least) have any Linux compatibility.

Dual-boot James. Dead simple.

Must admit to never, ever playing any games of any description but Valve/Steam have released some games for Linux that apparently work better than on Windows. Haven't a clue what they might be though.

Not on my configuration. I do NOT want to explain to both Windows 10 (again) AND Linux why I have 4 SSDs, and how I want them to be used!

Solid State Drive (no spinning rust). My PC normally takes 20 seconds from power on to password.

They are more expensive than the equivalent sized HDDs, but are considerably faster, and a much lower power consumption. Here is one I found on e-bay with useful details;

That looks remarkably good value to me James... Not what I'd call expensive at all...

They're great Jim, adding one to my laptop has made it a lot quicker than when it was new.

\SSD as my main (C) boot/programme drive, one as my photoshop "scratch" drive, just about to install one in my Creative Vision-M MP3 player.

A simple 250GB type will transform a PC.

My configuration is thus;

446GB SSD for O/S and applications,
238GB SSD for games only
119GB SSD for videos, pictures and music
111GB SSD for the Windows swap file.

20 seconds from turning on the PC to the password request.

I might have to try one of these soon. Looks like I may have a failing drive in one of my Ubuntu machines... fsck repaired it but I'm not confident...

SSD's are the way forward and the only drives i reccomend for desktops and laptops in business use now, more so in laptops as they take knocks much better, and even for busier bigger rigs, as the main drive they can still stick a 6tb WD Red/Black for extra storage of VM's and workspaces :)

£25 for some 120gb models which is more than enough for a basic home laptop or a Lexia laptop for that matter ;)
