C5 Mk3 X7 Autobox Interlock Relay
Hi, my first post, although a long time lurker and "Citroeniste"
Can anyone help, my wife has a 2008 C5 Exclusive, Auto.
It's occasionally getting stuck in Park. I have replaced the brake light switch, had the top of the gear-selector and I can see the solenoid working, but once in every 5 times...it appears easily disabled, but before I do that I would like to replace the relay that operates the interlock, as it would seem to be high up the list of probable causes.
The closest I can narrow it down to is "behind the glovebox".....but there are a lot of things behind the glovebox, can anyone tell me exactly what I am looking for, or even a pic ?
The main dealer I called doesn't list it a part no. (or couldn't be bothered to check)
It's a RHD UK car
Thank you in advance

Re: C5 Mk3 X7 Autobox Interlock Relay
I can't help with thee relay location, but when I had similar symptoms with a Xantia V6, it turned out to be the early failure signs of the transmission multi-switch (located on the side of the gearbox). Does the car have a gear indicator on the dashboard? If so is it showing P when the fault occurs?

Re: C5 Mk3 X7 Autobox Interlock Relay
Thank you, I think it is a different system on the later C5's as it is a complete re-design from the earlier C5's (which I guess are more like the Xantia)....but happy to be corrected.
It seems a common fault, but not as many DIY'ers for the newer cars it would seem

Re: C5 Mk3 X7 Autobox Interlock Relay
Ive had the relay replaced when mine would stick in park. Started intermittent then I could spend a few minutes trying to get it out of park. I had to leave it in neutral until the dealer replaced it. I don't know it's name or part number but there is one there somewhere.

Re: C5 Mk3 X7 Autobox Interlock Relay
Thank you for the help so far.
I'd seen the diagram, and in fact printed it off, and left it in the glovebox along with a plastic knife for removing the trim, and a bent screwdriver for accessing the interlock !
The bit of plastic that is pushed by screwdriver looks to be very easy to remove, thus solving the issue for ever....but losing the safety of the interlock, so I'd rather try and sort it.

If there is a relay, you should be able to locate it by listening to it click when the brake is applied while the transmission is in Park.

Re: C5 Mk3 X7 Autobox Interlock Relay
Hi, My car is a 2011 C5 Exc, RPO 12489, I have used these details to lookk for your part, depending on RPO number there may be a change, but the description should be the same.
According to the wiring diagram, equipment item number is 1642 ( gear lever blocking actuator control relay) and according to the installation diagram it is in the center console near the gear lever.
Sorry, I do not know how to search for a part number from a wiring diagram item number, perhaps someone could do that bit or let me know.

Re: C5 Mk3 X7 Autobox Interlock Relay
Oh bugger
The interlock is becoming intermittent on my 09 Tourer, and I need to look at it. I can hear the relay working every time I touch the brake pedal but sometimes the interlock release is a tad slow and sometimes it needs several attempts to unlock. Trouble is I can't see how to get the bezel surrounding the shift off - the first operation listed above ie the bezel (1).
I can get a knife down the side of it but cannot see for the life of me how to, quote 'unclip and move aside' There must be some knack which I have yet to find - any one help please??

Re: C5 Mk3 X7 Autobox Interlock Relay
Does this help?
Causes:
Here's a little more detail of the bezel showing the clips:
Causes:
- The causes of malfunction can arise from the following elements :
- The battery voltage
- The "shift lock"
- The selector lever position switch
- The automatic gearbox ECU
- The wiring harness
Unclip and move aside: The bezel (1) - Note, just use a trim removal tool - plastic with a thin edge and gently lever in at the sides to release the clips. | (a) Unlock the "shift lock" with the aid of a screwdriver - Press on (2) (In the direction of the arrow). (b) Move the selector lever to disengage it from the "P" position. |

The actual relay for the interlock is under the glove box on the passenger side. It's a bugger to get to and I had to be upside down on the passenger seat with my head in the foot well to trace it.
I didn't think it was the relay that was causing the issue as i could hear it clicking but when i swapped it for a new one the interlock worked every time. It turns out that the contacts were knackered in the old relay as it operates every single time the foot brake is pressed.

Re: C5 Mk3 X7 Autobox Interlock Relay
No real need for special tools, mine came out easily with the use of an old AA membership card! Just slip it between the trim and centre console at one side or the other nearest to the gearstick end - a bit of leverage with the plastic card and the trim will just pop up. The only difficulty I had was that the gearlever just wouldn't come apart from the shaft, but I managed without doing it, I was scared of breaking something!
