Well that's a pain in the bumpstops..... exactly 93 yards from home, just coming back from a run to Ikea (I know, hell on earth ) and the front end goes bang and then makes a bit of a nasty noise. I thought it'd be a spring as the car still moved well enough, it just made a noise over every bump and every steering turn.
I've just had the wheel off and sure enough, snapped spring and looks to be a bit wedged Book time is under 2 hours and doesn't look like too much grief, though I'm not looking forward to the hub nut - 345Nm..... I presume doing it up to FT will suffice ? Eurocraparts have allegedly got Sachs springs for not much over £20 - any thoughts on Sachs springs ? Good, bad, or indifferent ? I'm hoping the top bearing is still in good condition - the car is at 75k and coming up to 7 years old so it should be OK
Anyone know if this is a common failure ? I know the general condition of the roads are responsible for a lot of suspension damage, but do the metal springed C5 X7 suffer more than most ?

Hope you get this sorted without too much pain.
It's kind of reassuring to know that good ol' steel springs are still capable of misbehaving, even when employed by Citroen.

Broken springs seem to be more and more common these days...
Never seemed to happen years ago...
Hope all soon fixed Bobins... Just get a big breaker on the hub nut and it'll be ok...

See if you can borrow Jims' breaker bar, it is somewhat longer than standard!
First, calculate what 345Nm is in lb/ft. Then it is possible to work out a reasonable accurate torque using a long breaker bar, a set of scales, a tape measure, some sticking tape, and your own weight. I can explain if you want.

James - I think you missed out the sticky backed plastic and the toilet roll tube from your list I think I've got your 'how to calculate' bookmarked somewhere as I thought previously it might come in useful

No, no - the sticky tape is for patching up the nasty scuff on your knee/knuckle when you fall off the end of the breaker bar.
