Re: Classic car spring/summer season 2016-What have you spotted?
Spotted one of these being polished and tinkered with in a garage. The contrast between buying something you have always had a fancy for, and buying your daily transport couldn't be greater. The guy was so enthusiastic and happy with his purchase, made all the more so because he had to wait 12 months, while it was being restored before he finally got the purchase back home to his garage.
Quite appropriate for the French Car forum because it has a Renault four engine and gearbox, complete with the umbrella gear stick, which in his case was designed to point down, so the "H" is not quite what you expect.
Sunny days only of course, but well done to him for taking the plunge, he is obviously well chuffed with his purchase
When he said it was a DRK....I immediately mis-translated that as DKW and asked if it was German! No Cheshire-ish as far as I can tell and only 59 in total made according to this article
His is blue in colour but some of it was still under wraps.
Yes and the aforementioned trademark Renault 4 Gear Stick can be seen poking out the dashboard on this pic
Unless I have clicked on an old advert, that one in the pics is up for sale at £6,500.
Regards Neil

Ahhhh - the wonderful self-centring gear lever! Once nursed one with a slipping clutch out of London on the Euston Road - in the rush hour! Fun? Not exactly (possibly on a par with the Simca Aronde - with the driver's door that didn't latch & indicators that were self-igniting)

It's a DRK. It sold for £6500. I have one. I'm in the owner club. I know this very car.

Cool thing. It's good that it's rebuilt. Get some fun in it.

Re: Classic car spring/summer season 2016-What have you spotted?
I could be in a rich vein of form here....
A lovely blue Lea Francis Type P in front of the paper shop. Fresh from the annual Beamish Reliability run through the Durham Dales, and heading back to Surrey via a stopover in Northallerton. Had a very nice chat with the driver and his companion even though I did interrupt them troughing their sandwiches.
No camera on hand so I've raided the internet to find a picture, It was exactly like this..the very same car..the light blue one KW3927

I see Chris570s now sadly departed HDi in the background... I cannot recall what it was doing at mine. I think I was swapping the front height corrector on it...BenC5HDi wrote:No, it caught fire and got written off, but we bought it back and my brother has totally rebuilt it so we still have it.daviemck2006 wrote:I thought you had sold it. You were underneath the front end, going through a "guide to expletives" book... yes, the height corrector

Re: Classic car spring/summer season 2016-What have you spotted?
Do you have to wear a crash helmet to drive the DRK?
Now where are "Running Boards" now. Very useful place in the 1920's when you weren't sure where the next chemists open was selling cans of motor spirit, it was always useful to carry a spare one on the running board.
Regards Neil

Re: RE: Re: Classic car spring/summer season 2016-What have you spotted?
No, but with the roof down, in winter, on the M1 at 70 or more, it's my preferred method keeping my head warm. Also wore waterproof padded and insulated motorcycle trousers and jacket - DRK has no heater!NewcastleFalcon wrote:Do you have to wear a crash helmet to drive the DRK

....rich vein of form continues with the hat-trick bagged with this rather nice TR6
and from the rear....no soft flowing curves, a definite touch of German design here
