I have just insured my mew 406 estate and they wanted £180 for it, put my old reg in and it was only about £150, I presume its because this one is registered as a 7 seater - can I take them out?

My renewal from Privilege is £231 04 C5 2.0 L HDI.

The comparison sites are at best £40 more and at worst over £600.

More than 20 years no claims and now only doing about 4k miles a year.

Direct line will do it for £194 but want a voluntary excess of £350 or £201 with no excess.

Doesn't seem to be any better deals for me, maybe I'm too old :( .

Think you've already go t a deal, just renewed on the C15 - @ £390-odd. Undoubtedly the most difficult vehicle I've had for long time. Last year when I got it 3 specialist vans companies cancelled the policy, after vary periods, no explanation, no refunds, no nothing. Now, bizarrely, it's covered under a specialist policy. Costs more than the Caddy & Cherokee put together (although they "live" in Devon) BUT, at least it is covered.

I just learned a lesson. I was considering a 'Cat C' 406 executive estate, the premium for my existing one has risen to £180 this year, the quote for that Cat C was over £400 from confused, the cheapest I could find which was from the merekat one was £272, fortunately I didn't buy it and I shan't be looking at any more like it.

That's good to know, because I had been toying with the idea recently. I was put off by the fact that there is often little difference in the asking price between a "cat c" and a straight car.

Peter
I tried the 'confused' etc. sites Peter I found that none of them quoted competitive prices, going direct to the insurers own sites was always cheaper.

I think the insurers are doing their best to kill off the comparison sites.

good! Then perhaps we'll see an end to the awful adverts thy produce... The one with the Russian (?) Meerkats and the one that has the classical singer are truly abhorrent and ruin Classic FM - as do most adverts but those stand out...

Shows how ineffective they are, I don't even know the companies they advertise...

Not as bad as the current Boots advert though...

I won't miss them. Always go direct to the insurers anyway...

I have used comparison sites since 'Confused.com' first started and have always found them cheaper, sometimes much cheaper - until this year, so I think you are probably right Jim and Gibbo.

I didn't buy the 406 exec I went to London to see yesterday, looked nice in the ad and the spec was good but it had an awful paint job.

Don't know, just nobody in insurance seems to like them.

The van specialists are really for commercial users - & demand to know why I've bought a van (bet H-van owners don't have that prob. :) )

Adrian Sucks also got cold feet, cancelled the policy but, at least, on notice (although the month(?) they were on risk cost me £100+)

None of the others will quote (at least on line) because "C15" doesn't appear on their list of models.

Next year, if I think of it in time, I'll get "Classic Vans" (or whatever it's called) & try some of the people who advertise in that - although I imagine it'll be the usual suspects.

I've had great results recently from Direct Line for myself, Cheryl and my Dad.

They're never on comparison websites. Dad insured a 4.6 P38 Range Rover yesterday as another car on a separate policy. 0 NCB available as they're tied up on other cars. Total price with £0 excess was £157.
