...well this one is what's known as "Off-Topic".....its a Thomas Telford effort, but while it may have had coaches thundering over it at one time, its just a pathway now...so its not one of the handful of iron bridges left in Britain which still carry road traffic! But it is pretty and has a nice paint job....Aldford Iron Bridge over the River Dee.

I might add to that with news that the Flour Mill train factory has just had another engine delivered for restoration. no details yet though.CitroJim wrote:Neil you're Making my day with all these bridges. I'm a real bridge afficanado

Might as well bring it into the body of the Kirk Gibbo....certainly carries road traffic and iron construction. Bigsweir Bridge over the River Wye 1827.

Re: Picture(s) of the day-Iron road bridges special June 11th
I keep refering back to this List of Bridges in the United Kingdom on Wiki and wonder how comprehensive it is. It has the listing categories as well, and links to the pages of info on the individual bridge. Its quite remarkable that we still have these wonderful iron structures from a couple of centuries ago still surviving today.
This one's definitely on the list, it could only be from one place.....that's the Spey running underneath it.....and Thomas Telford's team behind it. We must have passed very close to it and not realised it was there at the time on our holiday up in Nairn because we did drive though Aberlour! Just been on Street View and should have just looked left from the New Bridge on the A941 and we would have seen it!

I'm in heaven I must be...
What's better than looking at beautiful bridges amongst breathtaking scenery and listening to a choral version of Elgar's Nimrod on the stereo at a properly high volume?
I must check I haven't just been knocked off my bike and killed...

That's worth your 99th "like" Jim! Glad you are enjoying them. Of course in the "World" list of things bridge-related now, China features all over the place, and absolutely spectacular, and awesome achievements of civil engineering they are. For me personally though that one over the Spey is just about perfection for me......and we missed it!CitroJim wrote:I'm in heaven I must be...

....Well time for a change of title I enjoyed "Iron Road Bridges Day" and learned quite a bit....I may well turn into an Iron Bridges Tourist as well as an AA Box Tourist when we are out and about. ......I'm going to have to start watching Telly again before this type of thing gets too serious!
