Your Activa Wisdom Required!

Unread post by jwalshe »

Greetings all. Bought an Activa this week and without boring you with any rants of giddy excitement, I will simply say 'hurrah!' and sit here grinning, as I plead for your wisdom on a few matters.

Any advice on the following would be hugely appreciated!

1) When switching suspension to high setting, the tail risies but car won't rise at the front.

2) After a few hours, the car sags slightly to the left.

3) Airbag light is on.

4) Nothing appears to happen when pressing the 'Hydractive' button near the gearstick. Is a light supposed to come on somewhere?

5) There's a metallic rattle coming from underneath the suspension height adjustment knob. It seems to work okay but when twiddling the knob, it feels like something has become disconnected/detached?

I think that's about it for now. If you can shed any light on the above, I would be eternally grateful! Really hoping to start using the car soon - can't wait! :)

Kindest regards,

James

Welcome back to Activa ownership James :D

In order:

1) Sticky height corrector, needing lubrication and a bit of TLC on the cradle pivots;

2) Often normal in an Activa. Is it OK and on the level when running? Can also be caused by a low pressure in the Activa Accumulator Sphere;

3) Common fault, check under-seat airbag wiring plug/socket (orange wires);

4) Normal, the switch only adjusts the thresholds at which the switching from hard to soft and vice-versa occurs;

5) Happens on mine occasionally and is due to the height adjuster rods striking the centre exhaust box. I reduced my problem by sheathing the rods in rubber...

As said on other media, come and see me as soon as we have a mutually convenient Monday or Friday between us and we'll go over it properly :D

It will be good to give the car a full health-check and explain some of the Activa oddities in detail. Can also do a sphere pressure check as this is critical on an Activa.

Thanks Jim. Much appreciated! I have sent you a little video via Facebook, which shows (I think) the power steering pump? It's making a horrendous whirring sound, whatever it is... :)

Really glad to be back with an Activa again. Life just hasn't been the same!

That sounds a bit of an unhappy noise James... Definitely not normal... I need to hear it properly to be able to properly identify what it is...

Does the noise go up and down with the regulator tick rate (i.e. does the noise change depending on if the pump is working to pressurise the system or is idling)?

It's so noisy, you can't hear the regulator tick! :(

That beds looking at urgently... Pump will be a little noisier when under pumping load but not by much. You may have a flat accumulator....
