ZX tailgate lock

The tailgate on my ZX Volcane (3 door, 1995) refused to open a few days ago. After releasing it from inside (not the easiest when you're 6'3"!) I saw that the plate on the inside of the lock with the releasing pin on it was no longer connected to the lock.
I haven't removed the wiper motor yet to take a closer look, but does anybody know if the pin can be reattached? Or am I looking at a replacement lock?

I have this on our Zx and must get round to fixing it. You remove the lock from the inside - there is a forked retaining plate which is pushed sideways to release the lock. I used a lump of wood and a hammer to refit it and I think a pair of water pump pliers to remove it.
There is a plate with a spike which operated the catch when depressed. this is held on to the lock by a rivet (and washer?) Unfortunately it is made from mazac and has probably fallen off. I hate buying new stuff and can't see how to get the lock barrel out and will have a go at drilling the Mazac and putting a screw into it. Who knows - it may work!
Incidentally with the catch removed you can open the door by pushing the lever which is revealed.

Not sure if this is relevant but... I removed the lock on my tailgate not so long back cuz it had seized. I took the whole thing to bits and put it all back to gether again and it worked, didnt need to put any "new" screws in or anything like that, just had to glue the white plastic cover on (the bit you press) since I broke the clips that hold it on. So I guess it can all be repaired easily. To get the fork thing off the inside that holds it on, I used a long flat bladed screw driver, and it clipped back with my bare hands. You dont need to remove the wiper motor to get at it.
Should all go back together fairly well. Good luck, and merry christmas - Simon
