Re: Picture(s) of the day
Are the next two after the Jag on the right a nice two-tone Humber of some sort, then an A40 Farina estate/countryman ?

Re: Picture(s) of the day
The VW, Neil . . . That's the one: an uncle of mine returned from Germany in the 1950's (he was involved with reparations and Services motor transport) with one of those - a twin rear window Beetle. That, together with his new German partner, caused quite some comment. He kept the car for over ten years (before moving on to an early Wyvern, and then a 3.3L Ventora), but his love for the good lady lasted far longer: they married on the day she died - around twenty years later - when her German husband finally relented over her request for divorce. Such things only happen to other people, I used to think.

Re: Picture(s) of the day
Dont think my eyesight even with a magnifying glass or a microscope would be able to identify those , but speaking of two-tone Humber's...for me this was the absolute star of the show at the Morris and Leslie viewing day for their classic car sale near Perth. They still haven't posted the results on-line but it looked good value at the estimated price. Too youthful to have appeared in a Birmingham Street in though...bobins wrote:Are the next two after the Jag on the right a nice two-tone Humber of some sort, then an A40 Farina estate/countryman ?

Re: Picture(s) of the day
So far I haven't stumbled across to many candidates with a double window at the back.
Its surely not an old Volvo PV444, and unlikely to be anything old and American like a Buick

Re: Picture(s) of the day
The windows on the one in the picture are a lot thinner than the Volvo's - more research needed !!NewcastleFalcon wrote:So far I haven't stumbled across to many candidates with a double window at the back.

The vehicle 2 cars behind the mystery double windowed car is surely either an A30 or A35 van or possibly a Countryman judging by the shape of the rear door window ? You can just about make out the little roof vent they used to have.

Re: Picture(s) of the day
Yes, vivid recollections of driving one to Stockholm and back to Borås and filling it with diesel, completely forgot the double rear window.

Re: Picture(s) of the day
It's not the greatest picture and looking closely the "narrow" rear window shape is really just framed by the light from the view through the front windscreen to the car in front. i think the Austin 16 is a good suggestion bearing in mind it is a Birmingham street in 1960 stock full of other British vehicles

The glasses I presume... You may have missed some time back on "The Pickled Egg Your Virtual Local..." thread. when discussing reading material to be deposited in the Pickled Egg snug for the entertainment of the Pickled Egg Punters...James (Hell Razor) put forward the entire Giles Collection.white exec wrote:Could be Grandma Giles... right era...
