C5 X7 Wind & Rain Deflectors

Post by GiveMeABreak »

Following on from Sticky's post on Wind deflectors for the Xantia, I decided to take the plunge and order a full set of the ClimAir wind & rain deflectors for the C5 X7 (well it is my Birthday today!).

Ordered late Tuesday PM and they arrived today (Thursday) PM. I had them all fitted within 5 minutes, although it did give me a reason to give the windows a good clean while I was at it. These are the German ones made by ClimAir and these have the German TUV approval, so they won't shatter and won't fly off on the motorway! They also do not require any silly clips to hold them in - they are custom made for each vehicle and fit like a glove. I've included their video at the end for a comparison against the Heko, the ClimAir and some Italian brand that I can't remember or pronounce!

These are the Smokey Grey ones believe it or not - they do a clear version and a jet black one too - but to be honest these blend in perfectly with the tinted windows and the black dividing window panels / trim. They are compatible with the chrome window trims as you can see. By the way, those blue ClimAir stickers can be removed if required.

So for any of the C5 X7 members considering these, here are a few pictures to give you an idea of what they look like:

Damn these look nice!! ;)

I'm searching for deflectors for both the C5 and the Fiesta. I can find both ClimAir and Heko sets for the Fiesta (ClimAir are the "official" deflectors for Ford anyway), but I'm having trouble locating the ClimAir anywhere in Greece, so it'll have to be UK or Germany. And the shipping cost makes the Climair's price more than double than that of the Heko set.

So I've settled for the ClimAir for the Fiesta, and probably go for the Heko set for my C5....

I'm off for a spin this afternoon, as they've had their 12 hour stint in the closed position, and it's raining, so will be a good test! Shame about availability - I've had a look on Amazon Global, but can't see them there and as you say the shipping from Germany is quite substantial. Did you see the video at time index 4.51 - on the motorway the Heko one came loose but the Italian one flew off!

Have you tried Amazon Italy? If you log in to the Italian site with your account and then add your greek address, will it show up as a deliverable location. I tried it and it showed the same price shipping to the UK! Just a thought. :-D

Saw the vid, I noticed that the Heko moved when driver rolled down the front passenger's window. However when looking at the installation demo vid on ClimAir's site, you can also see a bit of movement on one of the front windows ? Anyway, if they stay in place, that's all I need.

What struck me as quite odd, is that the Heko set seems to be the one with the most failsafes (fitting-wise): it's quite rigid and its natural curvature "forces" it into place (as does the ClimAir too), it has the small double-sided stickers, and it comes with those little metal clips, which appear to need quite a bit of force to put them in place. I'm *guessing* that the Climair deflectors are more rigid, thus less flexible, so less movement is allowed when rolling up/down the window.

In any case, I've already ordered the tinted 5D ClimAir set for my Fiesta, and I will also visit the store which carries the Heko set for my C5, to take a look and compare the two....

Good idea, try the Fiesta ones and see how they are then you can make a decision on the C5 ones. 8-)

Marc, would be interested in the results of your road test, I have been looking at something like this for ages but didn't know anyone had had one fitted. I am more interested in the effect of having a window open when its a nice warm day and traveling at speed. When I was knee high I remember you could travel quite fast with say the drivers window down and not be deafened by that awful wind buffeting noise you now get since makers made cars streamlined. Don't really want the window open when its raining.

HI Steve - just back from some chores, but sod's law torrential flash flood and lightning!, so haven't been able to go anywhere at speed and certainly not with the window fully open as yet. I had the driver's one opened about 3 inches and that was silent with no draught in the neck. When I get a chance I'll see how they are at speed at various opening levels for you and report back,

I thought I'd do a quick update as it has been over a year since I had these fitted:

Very pleased with these indeed, they have not budged an inch since fitting as I would of expected.
They work amazingly well, keeping the wind noise right down and more importantly stopping the draught causing neck ache. With the windows down a few inches, the rain is also stopped from getting in and that allows some fresh air into the cabin.

I'm really glad I got these and have not been disappointed. They have not faded and look as new as when they were fitted.

I've had the Heko ones for over 6 month and they have never flown off yet. I did manage to brake one when fitting and in the process slice my finger open quite deep. Some times the wind catches and come back down (about 5 times in 6 month) Other than that they have been great.

Sorry to dig up an old thread.

Is the nosie reduction with all windows closed at motorway speed (and higher) significant enough to justify the ~£110 they want for a full set these days?

Well put it this way, having sold my X7, I went out and bought another set for my new Aircross. So this time I didn't buy the rear set, just the fronts and they do keep the rain out and allow some natural ventilation. Again I can't fault them. I think they're more expensive because of the TUV certification and they are German made, so good quality.

Initially I had a deal on a set of Citroen Genuine deflectors - and guess what - they would not fit! Back they went and ordered another set of the ClimAir Sports, of which the black perfectly matches the Ink black roof, mirrors and trim.
