U turn

Unread post by Stempy »

Having been unable to move on the C5 to anywhere other than the scrap yard for £150 I decided to see if I could get the duff speedo fixed for not too much money. I found this place

who I left the car with. An hour and a half later they had removed the instrument cluster, repaired it with a lifetime guarantee, and refitted it all for £139!

So for the time being at least I'm keeping it as it still drives beautifully, and although it still has numerous electronic niggles none are unsafe or illegal.

That's a useful link Stempy - would be useful to others if it was in the useful tips / recommeded garages section too. Glad to hear your C5 has received a last minute stay of execution! :-D

That link has now been added to the garages section.

A Question, if I may.
what WAS the fault? and was it the cluster? or maybe the bsi/ecu? that was the culprit?

thanks, Bob

The fault was in the cluster, the stepper motor that moves the needle round. There are still a few other electronic faults but I've lost the will to try and fix them, as long as it drives ok and is safe and legal I have better ways to waste my time

It's sad to think that we live in an age in which what many would still consider a modern, if not new, car could've been scrapped because the speedo didn't work.
