I-Spy Classic Cars/Bikes-What have you spotted?

Unusual one today, Alfa Romeo RZ spotted heading out of Oldmeldrum towards Inverurie about 14:00.

Which one of these colours was it Zel? A very rare beast indeed, and apparently nicknamed "The Monster", with its odd looks.

This one was black.

Spotted it quite a ways off, most of the approach being spent going "What on eeeeeearth is that?" before I eventually recognised it.

I would say that the Alfa Romeo RZ and ZZ have something in common with the McDonnell Douglas F4 Phantom. This was described somewhere as being a triumph of thrust over aerodynamics. They do look good though (both the Alfas and the Jet).

I would never have recognised the Alfa, looks very Thunderbirds to me.

Nice crop. Like with the old Capri's, Cortinas up to Mark III, bring back bit of a nostalgic feeling for me, and I had the pleasure of an underage off-road driving education with a Hillman Minx a friend of mine acquired. The bus at the bottom looks like a Bristol Lodekka.



And having mentioned the Cortina, I had to open the door of a mk1 Cortina estate at the auction viewing and get a picture of another nostalgic feature from cars of my youth........the bench front seat..and the column change.



A vast expanse of red vinyl......on sunny days you could literally fry an egg on that surface

I see a tidy ZX in daily use every time I go to Somerset. Belongs to my dad's next-door neighbour.

In sharp contrast to my last trip down the M6/M1 a couple of weeks back where I spotted absolutely nothing of interest, saw a right old batch today - sadly no photos!

In no particular order.

Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow.
Rolls-Royce Corniche.
Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn (we think).
Clearly preserved MCW Metrobus (sounded like it was running a Gardner).
What I *think* was a very early Leyland Tiger.
A mid 60s Bedford with what I reckon was an ancestor of the Plaxton Supreme.
Rover P6.
MGB & MGB GT (x3 or 4).
Tesla Model S (x5 - okay, not classic in the old way, but interesting to actually see them in the real world).
BMW i8 (as above).
Two early 80s era Vauxhall Caveliers in convoy.
No less than three Xantias - all of which I missed because I was dealing with heavier traffic at the time but my other half spotted them.
Pug 405 estate.
Austin A35 Van.
Morris Minor pick-up.
Citroen 2CV.
More VW T25's than we could shake a stick at & their predecessors.
Porsche 944S.
What based on description appeared to be a Ford Sierra that I missed.

...Think there were probably more, but have probably forgotten some!

No less than three Xantias - all of which I missed because I was dealing with heavier traffic at the time but my other half spotted them....

Nice haul there.....I am bad enough looking out for birds and animals and nice places to stop off at, as well as interesting cars, to spot everything that passes so its..

...always good to have a second pair of eyes taking an interest. Back from our hols I had a series of registration numbers written on a paper bag by my co-driver! to aid with identification.

Tesla Model S (x5 - okay, not classic in the old way, but interesting to actually see them in the real world).

Wow, maybe we are going to have to move with the times and start an I-Spy Electric Cars thread if there's going to be that quantity of Tesla's out and about!

The BMW I8 which I have also spotted more than one of recently can only do 20 miles fully electric but its undoubtedly a striking vehicle none the less.

Only time I've seen a Tesla in the wild is stuck at a charging point in Chieveley Services on the A34/M4 junction at arounmd 06:30 in the morning.

Driver looked bored out of his mind Costa coffee were doing well out of him though...

I see these electric things as a blind alley in the evolution of the motor car. An interesting curiosity of no real practical value. A bit like tablet computers...

I shall be buying a Prius in the not-too-distant future. Hybrid is good, fully electric isn't ...yet.

I nearly got run over by a Pious when one lived in our street... It was running on batteries only and was moving in stealth mode (i.e. silently)...

Not at all Neil, It's just a thought I've had for a long time... I still think a small petrol is the way to go in the future...
