V6 MPG

Unread post by fatherjack2002 »

Hi folks, hope everyone's well,
I've just done a round trip of 360miles From Lincoln to Newcastle at the weekend, mostly A1/Motorway including about 25 miles urban driving .
Maintaining an average of 90mph on motorways and including urban the car returned 26.4 mpg.
Is this an average overall return ? if so i'm pretty pleased with :) :) :)

Hope you had speed camera warning somehow.

... and that there were no SPECS cameras with ANPR!
24 MPG seems to be the figure quoted by parkers for the the 3.0 V6 - so would seem you could get better at Sunday driving speeds!

That's not bad economy Paul

Now moderate it and you should score low thirties if you're gentle....

I would have expected about 28 mpg for motorway driving at 90 mph, but there are lots of unknown variables. It is anyway good to see your V6 being used.

Our XM 2.5TD recently completed 5000km driving from Malaga to Arran/Kintyre, and back.
From S to N of Spain (Malaga to Santander) average speed was 61mph, much of it done at the legal limit of 120km/h (75mph) and a bit.
Average for whole trip was 43mpg.
Last time I looked at twenty-something was P6 V8. Even my 1935 Rover 10 managed 24mpg average!

I averaged 27mpg over my short ownership of 2 V6 Xantias and I'm not known for hanging about..

I averaged 82mph and 39mpg in a C5 110HDi on a trip to Brussels and back from Reading.

yikes.
my x7 had 20 L put in on Saturday (nearing the end of reserve) , and I did 204 miles (very near end of reserve today!) ..

*all at boring sub 70 speeds, half on motorways and the rest carefully on A/B roads.*

*doing a Peter :rofl2:

I think that works out at 46mpg .. I would have thought the V6 petrol xant would have been a bit better but I guess wind resistance goes up exponentially ..I cant remember my V6, was a few years ago.

Must be, you have the only manual one. I thought you'd get the highest economy here.

26 Mpg would bankrupt me! Still, the V6 is a petrol engine...

I typically get 5.6l /100km (around 50 Mpg) out of my 1.6 Hdi 'X7' C5 on French motorways staying at or below the legal limit (130 km/h - 80 Mph) and 5.2 - 5.3 l / 100km (54 Mpg) on UK motorways staying at or below the legal limit. I can average 4.6l /100km on a flat rural run (60 Mpg) but short runs and going up and down hills does kill the consumption, which is a pain seeing I am the kid's taxi service and live at the top of a big hill. Even so, I have still managed to average 5.7 l/100 km (49.6 mpg) over the last 10,000km. That's still 8 Mpg less than the average used to be for my old Fiat 1.9 JTD Weekend estate...
