Which DRL lamp ?

Unread post by bobins »

One of my DRL lamps decided it'd had enough today and has ceased to be, so I'll have to go through the simple :rofl2: procedure of replacing it. I'll do both whilst I'm at it and I'll be taking the bumper off as I ain't got dainty hands and I've not got a small child to hand that I can persuade to change the lamps for me. :-D

What's the current recommended option for replacement lamps ? The genuine Citroen ones made of gold plated unobtainium (HP24W), or LED ones. Any LED ones to get ? Any to avoid ? Recommendations from the panel, please :)

Well you've no doubt read up on the subject :-D -

These are the ones I went for:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP24W-DRL-Day ... xyRNJSi3kw
..and you can see the pictures from my post:
http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 15#p464198

I got the dealer to remove the old ones for me and grease the threads on the light housing - but then I fitted them in myself as I wasn't sure if they would fit in without any mods. I did have to pry out the bulb itself very carefully, so as not to snap the lugs. The new LED ones went in nice and snugly. If you have the new LEDs with you when they do the job, you can take a screwdriver and do this while your having one of their coffees :-D and then ask them to carefully fit them back for you (test first before bumper is put back).

Or just get them to replace the original HP24W bulbs at about £40 per bulb plus fitting! Your choice I guess :?

Thanks for that, Marc. I've ordered a set as they seem to have done the trick just fine on your car :)

Well that was easier than expected ! I thought I'd have a look at removing the DRL lamps by reaching in behind the headlights to see what I could find - nothing ventured etc. A mirror and a torch showed it to be fairly accessible, so a T45 bit on a stubby 3/8" ratchet and hey presto - both lamps out easy. No blood drawn, no scars to prove where I'd been :-D I'd say it was no harder than removing a spark plug 8-)
Do the X7 with the wet suspension have loads of bits in the way ? Mine (on curly bits of bouncy metal) doesn't really have anything blocking access via the engine bay route \:D/

Well done - X7s with other kit are a problem - Xenons lights for one with all headlight washer jet tubing etc., ballast and basically that's why you need twiglet arms to get in there - anyone with Deperate Dan arms and a loaded X7 with tight bulbs forget it! :-D

I was genuinely surprised to be able to remove them so easily. I take XXL gloves (and they're usually a tight fit !) so I was expecting trouble, and blood to be spilled
