Hi, I have a Xsara Picasso, 2.0 HDI on a 55 plate (2005). for some reason the fuel pump seems to be staying on when I turn the ignition off, this is draining the battery overnight and becoming a bit annoying disconnecting the battery every time I stop.
I say seems as there is a buzzing coming from the fuel tank area and it stops when I disconnect the battery, this leads me to believe it is the fuel pump.
Has anyone got any ideas what could be causing it and possible fixes? Let me know if you need more info.
Thanks, Jamie

I don't think there is a fuel cut off solenoid on these engines - it's controlled by the engine ECU. You'll need to have it read by someone with a lexia, but if it is giving off a low fuel pressure code, that could indicate the fuel pressure sensor itself or the fuel pump could be failing.

First thing I'd check here is the simplest. I imagine the fuel pump is fed via a relay somewhere, I'd check that the relay itself isn't faulty - I have had this happen on a Saab before when the relay contacts welded themselves closed.
Current fleet:

You have the circuit diagram for the car, obviously?

On this model year the fuel pump relay is in integral part of the under bonnet fusebox.
It does sound like a sticking relay but i would first check the injection ECU & under bonnet fusebox plugs for signs of water ingress.

Thanks for the replies people.
I thought it could be the relay but couldn't see where it would go as was looking for the brown one that seems to be popular. Will now have a good look at the fuse box under the bonnet.
I don't have a circuit diagram unfortunately, if anyone knows a link that would be great.
Thanks, Jaie
