My C5 2.0HDI is doing well average 74mpg everyday driving, but my front alloy wheel on the driver side is damage by pothole which is now vibrate so badly when increase the speed. The garage said alloy head bore is bend slight and is not repairable, I have never like the looks of standard alloy wheel so I though I want to buy my own nice alloy same size as other one to match looks of the car.
If I buy the lighter weight alloy like OZ ultraleggera which is weight 1.1kg lighter than standard means total 4.4kg will it makes any improve on mpg and handling? or it does not make any different??
Please let me know thanks
Is worth to buy lighter alloy wheels? for C5

I certainly wouldn't recommend changing a single alloy for a different type / weight. It could affect the balancing and handling of the car and I'm not sure your insurance would cover you if anything happened! I would suggest getting 4 alloys second hand from a breaker, or an exact replacement for the ones you already have.

C5 "steels" (which are in fact an alloy) are lighter .........Not as good looking however.
I would agree with the above as well.....single alloy ?, bad move. Full set ? personal choice. Also don't forget Pug alloys (4xstud) fit C5 cars as well

Edited now I've read the post properly...GiveMeABreak wrote:I certainly wouldn't recommend changing a single alloy for a different type / weight. Yes, Marc is right. You need matching wheels or it'll be strange to drive. Even with a different weight *tyre* on a standard wheel it can make it pull or wander. So a completely mismatched wheel is a serious no-no.
Insurance? I rang them, told them it had non-standard alloys on, and they said "ok, no additional premium, thanks for letting us know" and sent me an updated schedule.

OZ Superleggera, in the UK, in white for a C5 will cost you £973 for a set of 4, not including tyres new, and not a while lot less secondhand.fv43576 wrote:My C5 2.0HDI is doing well average 74mpg everyday driving, but my front alloy wheel on the driver side is damage by pothole which is now vibrate so badly when increase the speed. I'd spend the money on something else, it'll take you an enormous amount of time to recover what tiny, tiny amount of fuel cost you'd save. You'd save as much weight by making sure there's no crap in the boot, running with only 1/4 full fuel tank and going on a strict diet for a month, all of which are free. You could even remove the spare wheel and jack and carry a can of tyre inflator spray and save another 10kgs or more...
