Nope....binned it. The ignition "sensing" was bollocks

On with ignition, off with headlamps via a relay............sidelights are only parking lights anyway

Hard to see, but did you place the LEDs inside the headlight unit then? I've just had to buy a new Fog / Indicator light unit as must of broken the light seal somewhere or a stupid flimsy plastic tab when replacing bulbs. Tried sealing it up with silicon sealant after drying out, but one spec of rain and full of bloody water again - so sod it, bought a new assembly.

Why would you drive with sidelights and DRLs on, or does the car give you no choice (a la Volvo)?

I NEVER drive with "Side Lights" on....I regard them as "Parking Lights" and only use them as such.

I do not know any situation when side lights are applicable when moving............low light, bad weather, tunnels ect ?....I switch my headlamps on (DRL's go off)

The reason I fitted them is they are good when going under trees, country lanes, shadow, all situations I have a lot around my part of the world.
At those times illuminated tail lights are not really required as the need is to be seen by any cars/horses/walkers that I am approaching from inside the shadowed area.

Yep, fitted INSIDE the headlamp unit. With the Xantia the removal of the Glass Lens is easy as there are 8 spring clips and a rubber seal.

I drilled a pair of small holes in the top of the reflector and used stainless steel (dental) wire to secure the DRL (3xCob) strip to the top edge.

I ran the wires over the top of the reflector and have connectors to the feed wires inside the headlamp "box" unit, these feed through the backing plate via a grommet to seal them. This allows me to remove the headlamp unit/change bulbs as per OEM method.

The wires run in the same Citroen plastic "wrap" as the wires I installed when I upgraded the main/Dip beam feeds, the relays and fuses (40 amp) for these live inside (under) the existing relays in the main fuse box so are totally hidden. All connectors are also made using Citroen connectors from an old car to keep the OEM look. The head lamp main earth's are connected to the chassis with only the relay earth,s connected to the battery.

I have to clean up the earth connections on the battery as it now has three ring fittings and looks pants at the moment.

They didn't send you the 24v version did they? Might explain the inability to detect sidelights.

I like the sound of your mounting method. I'd ruled out DRLs because I don't want to tell the insurer I have a modified car. Fitted to the light rather than body would look more OEM and be quite acceptable to me.

No, it is marked as 12volts

Fitting DRL's a mod & tell the insurance company ? ....... a little over the top there mate me thinks.?

All I wanted was to avoid the "extra stuck on" look that so many of them look like no matter the benifit of them. I have never liked the DRL's in air intakes etc for example.

thank you Jim, praise from you is worth a lot to me, I know you do not like to much non-OEM stuck on stuff :)

I also dislike the stuck on look. You're method may well change my mind about fitting them to my Xantia. I like technology blended into old cars to look OEM. Fitting an invisible wireless phone charger to the front oddment tray on mine is on my mind currently.

Regarding the insurance I wouldn't tell them if it looked OEM. If they were just hung off the bumper I'd be the one that got my insurance invalidated for it though. I'm kind of unlucky like that.
