If anyone fancies owning one of those double deckers they can buy one just three miles down the road from me. :)

Believe me, if I had a full cat D licence and somewhere to store one I would already have one...or two...or...you get the idea. Despite many driving hours and being assured by the trainer that I could easily pass the test first try for "political reasons" I was never able to take the test through work and couldn't afford to do it out of my own pocket, so all my driving has been done with L plates in the window. I would really like to get that done someday, especially as I'd like to be able to be a useful volunteer at places like the Oxford Bus Museum which is just down the road from me.

That Bugatti is something else...imagine it would be a bit of a handful in those conditions...

I've not got my cat D any more. Doc says I wouldn't pass my medical due to some medications I take. [emoji26]

Been there, an excellent day out :D Well recommended..

Although I never travel by bus and have not been on one for possibly 30 years now I love the old ones to bits..

Like you Zel, if if I had space...

My brother drove Midland Reds then emigrated to Australia, worked at the British Leyland factory until it all went belly up then drove buses for Brisbane City until the end of his working days.

I asked him once if they used Mercs, he said "We don't have any of that s**t we use Volvos." :)

Hard to beat Volvo commercials, B10 and B58 being the ones I've had most dealings with. Massive nostalgic soft spot for Y series Bedfords as well even though I know full well that they are terible in most every way compared to Volvo's products of the same time. Scanias were up there too, but thirsty, expensive and fiendishly complicated!

My spot of the day was an immaculate looking A plate Fiat Panda 1000. Can't remember when I last saw a real Panda.

Difficult to beat a Volvo B10M of the 90's with a plaxton body or a van hool body around them.

Agreed! For the local work a B10M with an Alexander PS body will do just fine thank you very much. Stagecoach Bluebird have finally just had to pull their last few PS bodied B10Ms off stage service due to the recent DDA regulation changes...most on an R plate. I wonder how many hundred thousand (or even million) kilometers were showing on the odometer of them...

The low floor rear engine buses which the airport had and were the last buses I drove were awful. Alexander dennis. Ours were too short, good manuveribility, which was ok for the job we did, but bloody awful the few times we were away from the airport, and the heating was non existant

That looks lovely...not exactly sure of the model, but definitely on the "I'd like one of those" list.

Davie, that will have been an ADL Enviro 200 most likely. Successor to the Dart and absolutely awful things! Having said that, your only other common option for small and low floor really has been the Optare Solo in the last few years which I also despise on a variety of levels. Plaxton did bring out a short "normal" looking low floor bus called the Primo back in 2006 or so, but I've never seen one in the metal. My choice for the small stuff? I'll have an old Merc 809 based Plaxton (?) Beaver "Breadvan" thanks...at least you know where you stand with them and that you probably can't break it even if you try.

That's exactly what they were Zel. Always breaking even when new. Hateful things.
