C5 facelift No Dash Lights after battery reconnect

Unread post by lakanooky2 »

C5 facelift No Dash Lights after battery reconnect.
Key fob still locks and unlocks the car all lights still work.
1/ took battery off to recharge over night
2/ reconnected the battery but had not put car in low position or left window open, so i locked the drivers door with the latch on the door so i could get back in
3/ followed the BSI reset, so instead reaching through the window i used the drivers door to turn lights on
4/ keyfob will locks and unlock doors and the mileage comes up in the centre of the clocks ..... but nothing at all after that .... no ignition lights and now information on the centre display
Have i blown a big fuse somewhere and where to start looking ?
Thanks In Advance Mark

If you've opened the door (or not closed it before the reset then the car network may not have gone to 'sleep'. I suggest that while you have the battery on now - do a proper reset now - but open Driver's window, leave bonnet open car in neutral and shut car door first. Wait 5 minutes for car to go to sleep without opening any doors. then disconnect battery negative. Wait for a good 5 minutes at least and don't open any doors. Connect up the battery negative again and wait 5 minutes at least. Switch sidelights on, then follow rest of procedure. See how you get on.

I can only suggest the obvious - have you turned main lights on - and tried to start car - it is attempting to turn over? If not, check the battery terminal cables for corrosion. Are you sure the battery hasn't had it? How old is it? - it may not have enough welly to power up everything.
Also - check your earthing points in case they are not making good contact. Next, I'd start checking the fuses - I don't have my old C5 manual but if you do - I'd start looking for the ones where things are not working if you have power to the lights and some equipment. Ther also should be a BSI Shunt in one of the fuse boxes - removing and replacing this should also reset the BSI.

No joy on the Shunt fuse still dead.
Only things working are locking and unlocking via keyfob (not tried the actual key yet) interior lights work Hid lights work and mileage comes up in the display.

Well I can only think that maybe when you took the battery out, you may have upset a wire (s) in the engine fusebox. Can you check the wiring around this area for breaks, check the connectors around the fuse box and make sure they are all seated. It can only think it is earth related, or something has been disturbed on removing and or refitting the battery. If all the terminals are clean and tight, all the earthing straps are ok, it will be Lexoa / Diagbox time assuming there is current to get that to work! What about the starter motor? Give this a whack in case it is stuck then try starting.
