...and might as well have an example of the car, nice Lanciaesque headlights, and a hint of Roveresque rear perhaps?

Slightly related, does anybody know what the codename (in house joke) was for the SR71 Blackbird as it was going through the design/development process?

Yes that's the non too obscure link :)
The bus was built by Thomas Harrington Coachworks Ltd of Hove.
from Wiki
Elva was a sports and racing car manufacturing company based in Bexhill, then Hastings and Rye, East Sussex, United Kingdom. The company was founded in 1955 by Frank G. Nichols.

Bit of a thread resurrection this but - I bought some bottles of beer yesterday from my local beer shop in Midhurst (The Crafty Pint :) ), one of the new ones in stock was 'Robbie's Red' from The Adur Brewery, it caught my eye as I was brought up there and my name is Robin and it had a car on the label - I know, any excuse for a bottle of beer :-D The car turned out to be an Elva and I thought - I know about Elva's, they've featured on FCF ! :)

Here's a bit about the Elva beer:
"Hugely proud of his Scottish heritage, Robbie Mackenzie-Low was living in Bexhill in the 1950's when he joined the Elva Racing Team as a 'works' driver. He collected many trophies before moving to the States, but was reunited with his Elva-Climax at the first Goodwood Revival in 1998. Robbie ... he goes!
Our initial trial brew has almost sold out with a matter of days but do not despair as further brews will continue and will become part of the range of truly wonderful beers offered by owner brewer Andy Dwelly at the Steyning based Adur Brewery. Fantastic label too!!"
Taken from: http://www.elva-ale.com/oldsite.html

And the beer is brewed by http://www.adurbrewery.co.uk/index.html

I suppose I should go all Nanny State and say 'Don't Drink and Drive', but it's somewhat immaterial as I own an X7 and there's nowhere to put the bottle in it anyway :rofl2:

Can we get the landlord at The Pickled Egg to stock Robbie's Red, please, as it's rather nice ? :)
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

The in-house nickname for the SR71 was (as Neil suggested with his photo) "Oxcart", as it was the slowest thing they could think of. Kelly Johnson started developing it as soon as the U2 came off the production line, as he knew they would need a much faster aeroplane for aerial surveillance.

....Is there enough here to identify the car, and the story behind it?

Came across it flicking through a glossy book on classic cars, with an Earl Grey and a "Barter" biccy (Ginger Parkin to be precise, and the usual 85 pence in the honesty box, probably the best value refreshment in the Country!) here amongst the roaring fires, and glazed tiles of the phenomenon known as "Barter Books" in Alnwick. Not sure if It has made an appearance in "Nice Places to Stop off at.." but it should.

So whatsthisthen? whosbehindthewheelthen? and whatsthestory?

Dash looks to be very much like one of the Triumphs, maybe TR4 - TR6.

Not this time, does this help, don't think there is enough detail for the magnifying glass method to work on the gear knob :!:

Image

I don't like to make them too difficult so here's the car in action

Image

Now the driver was supposed to be heading towards XXXXXXX, but the eagle-eyed public noticed that the driver was on the upper deck of the bridge, and was actually driving the wrong way. Now if you imagine an iconic track playing in the background, you have the film, the car, the actor.... the lot!
