C5 hpi ECU fault anti thieft device enabled

Post by WidowmakerUK »

2003 2.0l petrol c5 exclusive estate low mileage 94k

The issue started a few months ago when it started breaking down only when it got in traffic eg at traffic lights it would could out and not restart, if left for about two hours it would start up and run as normal.
It went in for mot broke down and will now only run for few seconds and stops.
It's been in a few garages for diagnostic testing got no code faults apart from ECU internal fault permanent anti theft device/ main fuse power relay hold.

I have had a reprogrammed ECU fitted and had the same error fault, I am now thinking it has to be something else causing the issue.

If anyone can shed even the smallest amount of light on this issue it would be a great help.

The ECU has its 4 main lives all power leads and earths have been tested, key has been reprogrammed to the ECU in case it had lost its data. Every other ECU is working as it gives data when reader is plugged in.

Right now I have a very nice looking c5 as a tomb stone in the garden.

Ok, I appreciate you saying you've taken it to several garages already - were these codes obtained from the Lexia / Diagbox diagnostic kit? If so, do you have the actual codes? What happened when you expanded on the errors, did it give you any tests to follow? Hence the reason why I asked if was Diagbox / Lexia that was used to run the diagnostics.

It's up at horn park garage right now not sure what dia machine he has there I'll call in on Monday and get details and codes. This car has been dead now for about 9 months no one seems to be able to fix it.

I was looking at getting a lexia3 dia kit from eBay not sure if it was any good, was going to look for some posts to see if anyone else has one here

Be very wary of where you get them from as there are some out there that do not have the full chip 'Revision C' hardware. These won't work with some cars including some C5s and Peugeot 308s. If you are going to invest in one, I would recommend Easydiagnostics. They are based in the UK and provide the proper kit and support, as attested by other members here on the Forum.

Hi, the fault has finally been cured it was a fault within the bsi unit, I was luck to have found a doner car for the spares and car is now running again. I do have a few other issues as the bsi was from a salon version.
The radio I have sorted by adjusting the code held within it the rear wiper does not work and a few other minor bits like the fold back mirrors and the tailgate glass lock but I will resolve them shortly by updating the bsi until to allow them the work again.

A super large thank you to everyone who helped to try and resolve the issue for me

The rear wiper on my C5 estate had stopped working (it was intermittent for a while), and it turned out to be tarnish on the fuse blades. When I removed and re-seated the fuse a couple of times the rear wiper started working again.

No I think it's a bsi issue as the salon does not have a rear wiper/washer it was working fine before the bsi/ecu was changed the same as the headlamp washers, fold back mirrors, tailgate glass does not work but the boot lid does, I had the radio coded as the 3second beeping was doing my head in.

The c5 only has the one washer pump motor they just change the supply so it runs in reverse this switchs the water direction and the slide valve moves to open the rear washer. The front screen washer is working fine so I don't think it's a fuse issue it more likely to be commas 2000 to bsi issue the function button is no longer working to change the display on dash board but was before bsi/ecu change. Just think it needs to be enabled as it was not long a go replaced by Citroen. I need to find someone locale to me that can sort it out now at an affordable price.

If your donor BSI was from a different spec. vehicle then you will need your Lexia to ensure the options are changed to match the vehicle. But I strongly urge you to make a copy of the existing settings via a screen print or similar, prior to changing anything, as others have bricked their cars functionality by changing settings. Some options have to have the mandatory settings regardless of what one might think they should be - as some BSIs were used on several models and on some models equipment is managed differently (some via Comms, some via BSI, some via Engine ECU).

Yes I am sure it the bsi the ecu was the same part number and the bsi and key transponder/key came as a full set from the same car.

They are from a c5 hpi exclusive salon and my car is a c5 hpi exclusive estate so I think some of the functions are disabled in the bsi.

The only I could get the car to go again was to buy a complete ecu set, the cause of the fault was unknown but for some reason the anti thief device would enable itself after you run the car for a few seconds. Citroen finally say the bsi had a fault common for the hpi version of this car.

A company in the locale town say they can sort it out but I think they want too much money for adding the minor extras. The main thing is the MOT bits all work fine and it now runs again, yes it's a pain not having the rear wiper as the rear screen get all the road dirt.

But thank you for the heads up on screen shot I read on forums there's no way to default the bsi unit and you have to set it back Manually and reapply the settings.

There are some things you can enable under the customer configuration section using Lexia and a few things you should be able to do from the car configuration options via the head unit. The Exclusive I had before the current X7 was a 2005 Mark II with the Navidrive RT3. On this system, many options like the lighting and rear wipe (saloon) on reverse and other options could be configured without the Lexia (assuming of course the BSI has been told all the kit is there in the first place).

I think the bsi does not know these items are there they need to be enabled in the bsi unit the auto lights work but don't work. I turned them off but they still come on. The comms has an issue also as I can no long run through the display options this might need to be setup again as it was working fine before bsi/ecu was changed. I need to find someone with a lexia near to me but I don't see any one near me.
