Re: Citroen C5 HDi Diesel/Smoking/Rough Running
At this level of soot blockage it is highly unlikely that a regeneration will start - even with a forced regeneration using a Lexia. I've also picked up from Iain's screenshots that the Eolys capacity shows only 44g out of a capacity of 5 Litres - so given that 500g is half a litre, that's 0.044 of a litre! If the reading is right, there baint be much in there to do a lot with.

Yep, I'd noticed the 'Town-severe' driving mode and thought that couldn't possibly be good.
But that's another thing that looks odd when you compare it to the recorded driving style by % of each type?
It says only 10% of driving style is town-severe (and within the last hour, only 3%!)
Anyway, looks like the place to start is by taking apart the DPF and all its associated pipework and clean all that.
I wasn't familiar with the set up on this (since mine doesn't have a DPF) so I've just had a read up in Haynes.
Doesn't say too much, but it's given me thoughts on a couple more things that might be worth checking at the same time, i.e. that the DPF pressure differential pipes have been connected back up the right way. Also suggest it's worth having a look in the cat at the same time to make sure that isn't clogged/partially collapsed?
Then after re-assembling... Give the car a good hard 'Italian tune-up' session.
A previous garage might have done a half-arsed attempt on this, or made a mistake when re-assembling?

That was also supposedly topped up recently.GiveMeABreak wrote: I've also picked up from Iain's screenshots that the Eolys capacity shows only 44g out of a capacity of 5 Litres - so given that 500g is half a litre, that's 0.044 of a litre! Perhaps the car has been trying to regen a lot and eaten it all very quickly???

Re: Citroen C5 HDi Diesel/Smoking/Rough Running
Could be Iain, if the filter is totally blocked, as it would appear from the readings and is trying to constantly regenerate, but never gets the chance because of the short trips then it could be loosing a lot of fluid. I know there are some companies that will do a full clean out and pressure wash of the DPF, but I'm not sure whether you can visually check the Eolys fluid. It seems the first step anyway in getting this done before tackling anything else, and that may remove some associated errors.wurlycorner wrote:That was also supposedly topped up recently.GiveMeABreak wrote: I've also picked up from Iain's screenshots that the Eolys capacity shows only 44g out of a capacity of 5 Litres - so given that 500g is half a litre, that's 0.044 of a litre! Re: Citroen C5 HDi Diesel/Smoking/Rough Running
I think the 44g refers to the amount of additive (as ash) that has accumulated in the filter.
I would say the filter needs to come off and be cleaned / replaced. However, not sure I understand why it has not regenerated it in the first place, or why it didn't flag a message for the filter needing regenning earlier in the piece....

Re: Citroen C5 HDi Diesel/Smoking/Rough Running
@ Richard - very confusing this information regarding the terminology used for 'additive'. I can see what you mean if this article is anything to go by:
http://info.autometric.se/images/storie ... _fap.4.pdf
If you look at the 2 notes sections on page 2, it would appear that the one on the right does refer to the calculated value of deposits in the FAP! - yet this is in reference to 'TOTAL QUANTITY OF ADDITIVE INJECTED INTO THE PARTICULATE EMISSSIONS FILTER = 127'... So easy to get confused.

Re: Citroen C5 HDi Diesel/Smoking/Rough Running
isn't the eolys tank a translucent tank under the back of the car on the passenger side, so it's quite easy to visually check?

Re: Citroen C5 HDi Diesel/Smoking/Rough Running
On the 1.6 HDi it is pretty clear - in the engine ECU there is one line that says 'additive remaining in the tank' or similar, and one that says 'additive in the filter' (or similar!). There is also of course 'additive remaining in the tank' in the additive ECU - and this figure does not agree with the engine's take on things on either car!! Picasso is on 90k, and not been refilled yet.....

Sorry this is in Dutch, I had an email from them yesterday offering a 'Starter kit' at a reasonable price for anyone who is in the position of doing regular regens.
I deleted the mail unfortunately as it's not something I need but if anyone's interested I guess you'll be able to find the offer online.
Here's the English: http://www.toralin.com/toralin-particul ... p-kit.html

Love the choice of music on that ad...
You too can finally quench that long, unrequited love in this sudden burst of passion and emotion, before disappearing off into the sunset, arm in arm, in sure and certain knowledge of a long lasting, loving relationship with your Diesel Particulate Filter...

Re: Citroen C5 HDi Diesel/Smoking/Rough Running
The Dutch system would be ok if you were using it regularly, but a bit of an outlay for a one-off use, unless you were going to offer the service to others and just purchase the fluid. A bit of research threw up the fact that Halfrauds are also doing a light and 'deep' clean at their autocentres, the deep clean is currently £85, so may be worth a shot...

Re: Citroen C5 HDi Diesel/Smoking/Rough Running
Dear Iain and other respondents
Thank you for the time and trouble you have taken in trying to sort our car out. It is true the Eolys oil tank is translucent and on the near side. We will have it checked and topped up if necessary. However I must point point out that the car was running perfectly until the severe rear end shunt. Immediately after re-starting the engine it was rough. Completed our journey approximately 40 miles further. On re-starting the following morning (approx 0 degrees ambient temp) the car smoked heavily and done ever since when cold. Therefore think this must be the result of mechanical damage occasioned by the accident. It has to be that prang! We have just done 800 mile round trip and it stopped once during this trip, otherwise worked OK but overall power seems to be down.
Regards
Sherrie E

Re: Citroen C5 HDi Diesel/Smoking/Rough Running
Was the Exhaust pipe shunted in the accident ?....if so it may of broken up internally (Cat or DPF) as both filters are based around ceramic honeycombs.
