C5 X7 DPF Additive level low!

Post by leocitroen »

Hi to all,

During the last refueling, (Citroen C5 2.0Hdi 165, 09/2012, Automatic), I got the message "DPF filter additive level low" ..
I've been reading about this additive and everything is quite clear.
I have two unknowns:
1. Does the additive tank have a float inside?
2. Can I request request from the service that they pour only 2 liters of additive?

Regards!

There's no float or similar, it just works out when its empty from re-fills / how much was in the tank to start with. It might be possible to add only 2l of fluid, but it might be a 'pouch' system where you just change the lot. If the free fluid type, I think you have to tell the ECU how much you have added, so it could be possible to change the amount. If you post up the last 8 digits of the VIN we can look up the type fitted.

A related question - does anyone know how long you get from the first 'low' warning to the point at which the whole thing stops?. How many miles can I expect before I get a warning?

My C5 (manual but same engine) is a 2010 model with 70k miles on the clock, and I worry that I will be up an Alp somewhere or just starting big trip when it tells me the bad news. I'm reluctant to get my dealer to do a 'just in case' eolys top up.

Why? It's not like it costs a fortune?

OK, thanks for the answer..
I think, if there is no float inside, I will top up my tank in dealer service.

I thought it was close to £200 for dealer to do eolys on an X7 here in UK

In the Citroën service they told me that 44 € per liter, and that they do not know how much they need to pour until they start to pour, and that can be a maximum 4 liters.

From your experience or knowledge what is the life of DPF?
My car now has 170000 km.

Who knows really, but they do have a finite life but that really depends on how much fast hot driving they have done/type of trips ect.

If it has lasted that long on a tank will you do as many again? ....it is OK price for the fluid.....2 or 4ltrs ?, your bet :)

OK, additive was refilled successfully.
When I brought the car to an authorized Citroen service, worker told me that they would have to do the regeneration of the DPF, and before that will have to do belt service because in my country it is on 180,000km because it is assumed that the driving is on high intensity.
After I said that I do not want to do belt service because my C5 is 172,000km and that they just refill the DPF additive he told me I had to sign a document that regeneration of DPF is on my responsibility. What I would not do even in dreams!!
But in the meantime, he was informed from service technicians that my DPF is OK and that there is no need to do regeneration, and they only refill the additive.
It cost me € 240, 4 liters of additives with diagnostics.
Day after I called the authorized Citroen service in Sarajevo (capital of B&H, 120 kilometers from my town), and asked about the DPF and belt service. The man I spoke seems like citroen expert, and he told me that they also have 4 liters of additives with diagnostics € 200, and that belt service not required to do before regeneration DPF with 172,000 km.
He told me, from his experience, to do a belt service around 200,000 km.
Also, we agreed that I would get the car on diagnostics and examination by him, for FREE.

Have you asked on aussiefrogs? They will have a lot more local knowledge about the availability of Eolys fluid.
