Citroen C2 Wont Start

Post by Pricer07 »

Just changed clutch in the car. Put the battery back on and the drivers side indicator light on the side and front are on constant along with all the side lights, front and back. When I put the ignition on, after about 10 seconds the headlights come on. The windows, horn, central locking, indicator or wiper stalks dont work. Ive tried resetting DSI by following the online procedure but it hasnt work. Have I knakered the Comm2002 unit? A nut in the engine broke so I welded a nut on it and the side lights were flashing as i was welding (the battery and ecu's were off) Any help please? Doing my head in.Thanks

I reckon you've cooked the underbonnet fuse box - which isn't just a fuse box, but a network switch that controls all the functions that have gone haywire. Post up the VIN, and I'll look up the part number - there appear to be 3 - one at £75 the other 2 at around £190.....

Ok. Will get it within next 15mins. Why would the welder make the lights flash? I earthed it to the chassis like I always do. All the symptoms point to this comm2002 box but you think it could be this fuse box? Thanks

None of it is good news....

Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT

00006500Y3 FUSE BOX 157.00 GBP 188.40 GBP 188.40 GBP (Underbonnet fuse box)

00006580N7 ANC CONTROL BOX 362.72 GBP 435.26 GBP 435.26 GBP (BSI unit)

00006239TW CONTROL UNIT 275.95 GBP 331.14 GBP 331.14 GBP (COM 2000)

Is there a chance you were welding on the engine with the earth strap removed, and it has therefore made an earth path via the 'easiest' route which may well have been via the underbonnent fuse box, hence the lights flashing....

Oh great. What you think I should start with? Are any of them repairable or can they be visibly noticeable that there buggered? I can get a 2nd hand comms for £30. It's comms2002, I've took the existing one off. I read that if the car had esp then it will need to be reprogrammed

And I had the gearbox earth strap off and the bottom gearbox mount off but that was it. I earthed it to the earth bolt on the chassis

With the earth strap off, I suspect it has earthed via the alternator and the fuse box. Doubt you will be able to see anything - I would check the maxi fuses underneath it though, as you may have popped one of these. This is connected to the BSI, so that may well be cooked too - and when you do get it started, I suspect you may well find that the alternator is goosed as well.... The fuse box is plug and play, but the BSI will need coding - and fitting a 2nd hand one is problematic.

I had the alternator unplugged but still earthed.. does that matter? the maxi fuses are situated where? Does the BSI need coding by lexia? Ive tried starting the car but it just keeps turning over so Im guessing its not getting a spark. I was hoping Ive just fried a few relays but this may not be the case. If it were your car, what would your first move be? thanks

It really needs to go on a diag computer to see if it gives a clue as to what is going on. But, the fusebox is not coded, and you should be able to get a 2nd hand one, so I would start with that - after checking the maxi fuses, which you will find on a secondary fuse box underneath the main one when you lift it out.

I've got a basic obdll reader (elm237 or something) that picks up codes, what that read it or would it need to be lexia? Ok, I've also heard the comm2002 unit isn't coded unless you have eps, is this true? Don't think 54 reg would have it. Thanks.

No, I think you will need a Lexia on it, so that you can find out if the BSI still has its configuration for instance.

You are correct that the COM2000 doesn't need coding - it just needs the steering angle sensor programming if it has ESP - even without it will work, you will just get an ESP fault message coming up.

Think I may have found the problem???...

This is on the BSI unit im guessing as it was from behind the glovebox. Would the crack in the track cause the issue? Do you know anyone that could fix it? Thanks

BBA Reman springs to mind.
I have no personal experience of them but others here have used them and as far as I am aware there have been no complaints.

Ok thanks, Ive give them an email, see what they come up with. Any more? Does the BSI unit have to be coded? I read that using a 2nd hand one is pointless and once theyve been coded they cant be recoded to a different car.
