You need rubber gloves and a rubber apron for that job :-D

I did the same job on my Xantia 5 years ago.....but didn't wear protection.

Why does the smell of diesel linger far longer than petrol ?

Dim Ysmygu, as we say in Wales - I hope that is the culprit and you're back up and running!

Ay up!

Personally I'm thinking of a full biochem warfare suit but then it would still permeate! It is the most invasive substance I have ever come across, even more so than mucky chip fat!

And Give Me a Break? Lack of smoke is what I want from the car. Now, from diesel locos that is a different story......

Incidentally, should the diesel in the tank have a greenish grey hue?

2 tricks my Mum does whenever she has to work on the engine of her narrowboat. First, she will rub some barrier cream onto her hands (she will not use thin gloves, as if they get torn, and a bit drops into the bilges, the pump will then pick it up, probably at the most inconvenient moment possible. Second, after she has done the work she will use a citrus scented handwash to clean her hands as (although she does not like the citrus smell) it gets rid of the smell of diesel.
