C5 UK Production to End?
Just taken the C3 in for MOT this morning and my Service Manager, whom I've known for years asked me if I'd heard the latest this morning, in that Citroen have now ceased production of the C5 X7 in the UK!
I've yet to find an official source as of this post (as I'm in town), but thought I'd post this while hot of the unofficial press.
I suppose it was inevitable given the poor recent sales as per my earlier post regarding the ending of the Hydractive suspension system. it will be sad as this will ultimately be the last link to Citroens heritage going down the pan.
Will the X7 like the C6 become the DS and SMs of the future?
I'll keep an eye out for more news, but for now it looks like 'grab 'em while you can guys'!

And that potentially, spells the true end of hydropneumatic suspension on Citroens... If true a sad day...

Re: C5 UK Production to End?
Do you mean they're going to stop production of right-hand drive models? The C5 has never been made in the UK.

Re: C5 UK Production to End?
Of course Ben, I should of been more specific. I believe it'll be China only that will be making them. So does this make way for a new model on this class, otherwise the French workers will certainly have something to say about it!

Re: C5 UK Production to End?
C5 has now stopped all over. The China one (for China only) is on Steel springs I believe. The last "order" date has now passed for New Hydro-Active C5's in the UK, Dealer stocks only (but they never held any anyway).

Re: C5 UK Production to End?
Yep, the service manager has said they are hard to get hold of any and rarely have any on the forecourt. 1 came in last week 2012 model and they have people waiting for a newer model but they can't get any.
Looks like you got yours in the nick of time Kenny!

Re: C5 UK Production to End?
That has made my mind up, can not see me buying another car this side of retirement and possibly after - I like my comfort, and that is why I have owned Citroens, from my GS, CX's BX, XM C5's................GiveMeABreak wrote: .Citroen have now ceased production of the C5 X7 in the UK
I certainly hope so, I have never owned a Citroen that has been worth more than other cars when soldGiveMeABreak wrote: ..................Will the X7 like the C6 become the DS and SMs of the future?

Why would they ?GiveMeABreak wrote:

Citroen have nothing-Zip all-nowt to make them different now from ANY of the mass produced Euro boxes.
The new ones are just a styling exercise that lives (a little) on the past.
There is no "stock" of drivers born to Hydro suspended cars coming up thru the models.
No people in love with the unique design/mechanical heritage.
No Motor sport history on Classics (like Ford Escorts ect)
No "Race" history to speak of
No assistance or loyalty to the later cars by Citroen (VW Heritage ect)
There is little to suggest that the the "following" will carry on to the C5/6
Parts supply will die very soon (5 years post production now), after market will not make the complicated throw away parts.
Sad and depressing but I feel true.
Citroen have thrown away their whole reason for being by incompetence, poor management, lack of mark enhancement (BMW/Audi) and low sales support.

Was always 10 years. Has their policy changed?Stickyfinger wrote:Parts supply will die very soon (5 years post production now), after market will not make the complicated throw away parts.
If so, it disgusts me as I'm a firm believer in being kind to the planet and making cars that cannot be supported over a reasonable lifetime is criminal. Good for the company coffers maybe in flogging new cars very frequently but no good ant all in any other respect, especially for the planet and the customer...
I wonder what Toyota's policy is with the Aygo? Looking to make my C1 last as long as possible!

Re: C5 UK Production to End?
Thank the EU Jim, the drive towards low emissions and a strange "Save the planet" logic. Oh....and MASSIVE lobbying by the car companies.
I ask however why Citroen cannot do a "Heritage" supply company like VW rather that scrap tonnes of parts as they did recently with XM/Xantia etal:

Re: C5 UK Production to End?
They might have stopped importing the C5 into the UK, but it seems you can still order a new one to your own specification in France, including specifying hydractive suspension.Stickyfinger wrote:C5 has now stopped all over.

The end is definitely near though!

Re: C5 UK Production to End?
I think they probably would if there was any money in it, but there isn't. There's an enormous market for old German stuff but for Citroen? There's not many XMs left, Xantias are on the way out and not worth spending the money on when a big bill appears. The "classic" stuff, which I refer to as the GS, DS and 2cv / Traction is already well catered for. I don't see Ford creating a heritage dept for 1993 Mondeos or early Focuses, and they are a lot more common than Xantias.Stickyfinger wrote:

It costs money to store all these parts, and if no one is going to buy them, then it's a waste of time.

Re: C5 UK Production to End?
Various companies "pass on the old stocks" to well organised clubs.....now would that no show good faith....
oh wait....it is Citroen/PSA and they don't give a baguette about the history apart form what they can USE for Marketing new cars that have ZERO relevance or similarity to their present cars.
