I think I might have seen one of those in Egypt back in the 1950s, Peugeot 203 maybe?

Right decade and particularly appropriate and on topic for the FCF, but not Peugeot.

bit more assistance

The XXXXXXX first earned a place in motoring history with the Algiers-Cape Town Rally in 1951, before going to forge itself a truly legendary reputation as a tireless adventurer with equally arduous expeditions from Tierra del Fuego to Alaska and from Tibesti through the Congo to Ethiopia.
...yes and here's one in service with the Foreign Legion in Oubari, Libya in 1952

I stumbled upon the answer a bit by accident, so I won't give it away, but a couple of snippets about it........ :)

"The XXXXXXXX was not a commercial success"

"With a weight of 1,640 kg (3,616 lb), the XXXXXXXX consumed petrol at an alarming rate and achieved its claimed top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph) only with difficulty."

Sorry Gibbo, I didn't page down the image list far enough to get to the pic. That's the one. Renault Colorale in its various formats Prarie, and Savane.

This 17 page booklet gives an excellent summary with pictures in English and French of the model and its history.

Colorale les cahiers histoire et passion

This is a rugged-looking example
