aftermarket stereo fitting 2005 C4

Post by johnsonr380 »

Morning, I'm after some help fitting a pioneer stereo into my citroen c4.

I've fitted a few stereos into my cars in the past without issue. But there seems to be a few extra wires on these models I'm not familiar with....yes I'm a novice but had no issues previously.

I've bought the antenna adapter with extra blue wire and the iso lead has an extra orange wire??

I've searched the Internet without success. I'm just after some advice as I've given it a go and the radio powered on for about 5 seconds and then just didn't turn back on.

Just after a little advice please, in a guide for dummies format ....thanks in advance

Have you ensured that you have the correct adapter and patch lead for your aftermarket unit? As the C4 has many controls in the Centre fixed hub steering wheel, it is important that your interface is compatible. They usually consist of 2 parts - the adapter and the patch lead - example below, but not saying this is the one for your vehicle.
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ctsct00 ... c5-mkii-c8
The orange wire is usually called an illumination wire. Its function is to tell the audio system when your car lights are on so that it dims the display.
The solid blue wire is usually for the option of fitting a Powered antenna - not required if you have a fixed antenna.

Yeah it's similar to that but the radio has come out of an audi. I've not bought the iso lead shown but it all fits into the c4. I've got the lead coming out of the pioneer radio and then attached the iso lead I bought that fits into that. Frustrating me the orange wire is not attached to anything but if it's just for illuminating I assume all should work anyway. Just can't work out how it came on all working and now it's not.

It went off just as I was fitting it back in the slot. ..

I know it's hard to help just by more poor attempts at describing what I've done but much appreciated

OK - here are a few links to the C4 site concerning audio upgrades - see if these will point you in the right direction:
http://c4owners.org/plugins/faq/faq.php?0.cat.2.199
and this one shows the wiring diagram for the C4 although they are talking about an Alpine system - should still be relevant.
http://c4owners.org/plugins/faq/faq.php?0.cat.2.82
How long does the stereo stay on before it goes off? If it stays on while out, but goes off when you put it back, it could be a bad contact on one of the connector pins. A second possibility is your car has a feature called 'Economy Mode', which will switch off the car electrics after a varying amount of time. Switching the ignition on will not be enough to power everything on again - you will need to start the engine. Lastly, it could be that it needs a switched live requirement (also mentioned in one of the above articles). :)

These appear to be an expensive pain in the backside to put aftermarket head units in. I've given up on the idea for mine and I'll just fit a connects2 box with a line-in..

Just tried for half an hour, no power. The unit has been taken out of my dad's car so i know it's fully working. It's doing my head in, just can't work out how it powered on at first but not now.

And it won't power on with the engine running either? Have you checked the unit's fuse in case that has blown?

Your C4 hasn't gone into economy mode while you've been fiddling and cut the power to the unit has it?

Beware of the Audi unit.
Two things spring to mind.
The Vw group as a whole have reversed the power connections from the standard ISO setup used by practically everyone else. There is also the infamous K line issue which has caused many expensive failures when fitting units to certain VW FAMILY vehicles.

Sorry guys been in work. Cars not in economy mode drives fine. I was thinking it maybe something to do with the iso out of the radio as that is untouched from coming out the audi and plugs into the c4 iso I have bought. If that makes any sense at all. Checked fuse and swapped still the same. I did read somewhere something to do about swapping cables. This may be beyond my capabilities as the last units I have fitted have pretty much been plug and go.

So to sum up I have two oso leads one from the stereo and another for my c4 which I've attached to plug into the car.

I hope this makes sense. I did have an audi iso which I've removed and swapped with the c4 one.

I believe (but I cannot be sure) that Citroen swap the Switched and Permanent Live wires over. I do not know if there are others.
