tyre presseure issue, sensor coming and going!
Hello All
I had my tyre change and rotated last weekend and since then the near side rear wheel is lost from time to time by the monitoring system.
the front wheels are now at the back.
The car is a 2013 Tourer.
I have read the different thread on the site how ever, I have still have some questions about the TPMS systems for X7 car.
Is there a receiver hidden in each wheel arches?
Would having rotated the weehls round caused a problem?
Thanks for the help
Jack

Re: tyre presseure issue, sensor coming and going!
There is only one receiver, located close to the spare wheel well ... the wheel rotation might cause issues, if the tyre sensors weren't re-registered (new positions defined with the Lexia) ... it might also be that the sensor that is acting up is losing battery power, which in effect has lower emitting strength, hence the signal won't get to the receiver which is now farther from it.

Each wheel has been coded for a particular position, so if you rotate them you need to have the system re-coded to reflect the tyre position changes. The batteries in these units last for years (average of between 5 to 12 years / 100k miles) and require the whole sensor to be replaced as the batteries are not replaceable. You either need to get somebody with a diagnostic tool to re-programme the tyre positions or go back the garage and get them to remove all the tyres and refit them on the correct rims. Whichever is the more doable I guess. I never rotate mine as the fronts are never on long enough to warrant it - they usually get changed twice a year minimum. Backs last forever.

Maybe he meant DiagBox ... if you don't even know the proper name for it, no offense mate, I wouldn't let you near the car with the hardware, let alone having you telecode something ...

What do you mean he can't, obviously it's been done ... ... can't blame him though, he said "had my tyres changed and rotated" ... what this usually means is that (by default) the tyre garage worker doesn't even ask whether the car is equipped with TPMS, he just does his job like a robot ... sad, but true ...
