C5 MK1 woes

Post by BenC5HDi »

Hi all,

I'm just after a bit of advice on a couple of issues with my C5. It's a 2003 SX model, has aircon but no climate control.

First off - the blower only works on full speed, none of the other speeds. Is there a resistor pack that needs changing? If so, can someone tell me what and where?

Secondly - passenger side interior door handle has disintegrated. Is there a way to fix, or is it a full replacement from the scrappy that's needed?

Thanks all!

Are you certain it is an SX?
I ask as the SX should have climate control.
Does it have the three line central display?
Is the indicator for the suspension height in the central display or together with the speedo/tacho instruments.

Can't help with the handle - they do seem to be rather fragile but I haven't succeeded in breaking any of mine yet.

It might not be an SX then. It's definitely only got the single line display and aircon, no climate control. It's got SX alloys on it, but no other niceties. Aircon, Single shot CD, basic gauges , cloth interior.

Ben - Covered the first part here:
http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... =3&t=54092
As for the handle - they are replaceable, screws hidden behind pop out plugs.
If it's an SX it will have the sunlight and rain sensor unit behind the rear view mirror - the LX models didn't.

It's definitely an LX then. None of this new fangled rain-sensor malarkey on this car!

That's the ticket, you also won't have the windows automatically whizzing up when you get a spot of rain - so at least you maintain all your limbs with your model!

If it's a right hand drive model the heater resistor is accessed from the passenger footwell . Easy swap.
The internal door handles are also simple but. The door card needs to be removed. There is a screw behind a blanking plug at the handle. The handle for pulling the door closed has two hidden inside. You will see where it splits open to reveal the screws. There are also screws to be removed inside the speaker grille.
A trip to the scrappie so.

My son came off his motorbike and broke a selection of bones including his leg.
Was in hospital for a couple of weeks then had to go back for physio for a few months.
When he was able he would take my car. One day it was chucking it down. He got to the barrier in the car park and opened the window to feed the ticket into the machine but the window closed before he could do it.
Tried half a dozen times and accrued a few irritated drivers behind him so ended up crawling out of the car to do it.
He isn't impressed with that feature (bug) :)

I like it, one of those times you'd rather not be seen in your C5!

I thought the automatic closing only occurred as you drove away in rain, e.g. from a pay booth. It works that way on mine.

No. Not on mine anyway.
I have found that if I drive into rain, the wipers start and the windows close.

If it is raining and I am driving and open a window, it closes again a few seconds later.

If only it would do it with the car parked - I frequently return to a car full of rainwater :(
