Marc,
I may be confusing you a little....
(1)The "clean Win7 Install" is on a laptop for Lexia/Diagbox only.

(2)The 3 cd Citroen Service upload is on my desktop computer, also running Win7. This is the problem one at the moment. (To make matters worse the Laptop keeps stopping at %85/90 but That can wait)
When this happened previously had to go through a procedure to enable the drive. Can't remember but involved the registry and can look up.

DVD drive not showing under Device Manager at all. Nothing picked up on Hardware changes. No Hidden Devices. Nada. It was detected/showing before I started the DVD installation, or we would not be here now if you know what I mean. It's just that the software will not release the DVD and does not recognise that a new (any) disk has been inserted. All comms with the drive have been locked out/severed. Very puzzling to me.
I was hoping that a "magic intervention" would enable me to continue, as if I reboot now I will be back to where I was with no drive showing until I recover it as previously stated.
Corrupt software? I don't know. Each time I try this I seem to get different results .

I've just tried to reload mine and it's thrown up a similar problem, keeps telling me to insert disk 3 but won't read it.

Looking at the disk it is brown (smokey) around the first quarter inch or so of the reading face as though it's been left in the sun. My DVD unit is fine with other disks, music/games etc.

Sounds like either a bad copy to disk, or a bad image file or a dodgy disk. Did you 'buy the disks' or download the ISO files and burn them to disk yourselves?

I bought mine, not for the first time either there are a few sets lying about here but I've not tried the others...........yet.

Ok - Just watch out that they are the same versions if swapping any of the disks with one from another set, otherwise you'll run into more problems (as if these programmes aren't bad enough as they are)

Marc, I bought the disks. Having removed files from the registry, disk 2 loaded fine the second time. But hung on disk 3. Next time it would not load disk 2 again.
As Richard says, any known safe download sites?

I have done the upper/lower thingy and find it is the only way to get it to read the DVD again - but not unfortunately in mid-download. Regards

Harry - seems you are having some annoying issues there. I'm just preparing to upload the ISOs to my MEGA account. If you can wait for these, then it will be a lot simpler, as you can just use a virtual mount for the ISOs once you have downloaded them and install from these, bypassing the DVD-ROM completely!

I've got Diagbox working on here now! So Win 10 64 bit, running Win Vista 32 bit in Virtual Box 5. You need to do the below to get the USB to pass through - think the key is in creating the filter on the host. Once I had done this and connected the VCI it passed through and installed the driver on Vista, a re-start and we were away:

General advice for connecting any USB device to a guest

The steps I use to connect any USB device to a VM are as follows.
(Note VBox4 users: if it's a USB3 device then it will only be supported on Windows hosts in a USB2 port - other hosts won't support it at all).
(USB3 support was added in VirtualBox v5.0, but remember that the guest OS has to support it too, so e.g. that excludes XP, while Win7 will require the non-native Intel driver).

1.Install the extension pack. This is not the same as the Guest Additions! The extension pack is installed on the host and adds a number of closed source special features to the otherwise open source VirtualBox software. The closed source features include support for a virtual USB 2.0 host controller, which allows connection of most current USB devices. The VirtualBox v5.x extension pack added USB3 (xHCI) support too. The extension pack version must match that of the main VirtualBox application.


2.Enable the "USB Controller", "USB 2.0 (EHCI) Controller", and "USB 3.0 (xHCI)" options in the VM settings as appropriate. If these were previously disabled then I like to boot up the VM at this point so that the guest OS can auto-detect the USB controller and install drivers for it. I then shut the guest down again. At this point the guest has only seen the controller - no actual USB devices were connected. This step ensures that when I later get the "New hardware found" dialog then I will not get confused over what hardware has been found.


3.In the VM settings USB | filters panel, add a filter to match the USB dongle. A blank filter will match anything, which is good if the device appears as a composite, i.e. presents as a number of different devices all connected at once. However the danger of a blank filter is the potential to grab the wrong device, e.g. you do not want to grab the hosts USB keyboard and assign it to the guest! (the host must have a keyboard, so it can't just be rudely grabbed and assigned to the guest: the host must own the keyboard and sends keystrokes to the guest as needed). If you have a problem with the wrong device being grabbed then you'll need to add information to the filter so that it matches your device only. In the case of my Huawei dongle I created a filter in which only the vendor ID field (Huawei) was filled in. This prevents most problems provided I continue to only use one Huawei device on my PC.


4.Now with the USB device unplugged, start up the VM. Wait until the guest OS is finished booting up (e.g. you reach the desktop in a Windows guest, and disk activity has stopped), then plug the USB device into a host port. On Windows hosts a "New hardware found" dialog box will appear. Don't let this fool you: this dialog is not the guest detecting your USB device, this prompt actually comes from VirtualBox on your host, and it's asking if it can install the USB filter driver, i.e. the driver that intercepts USB messages from this device and redirects them to the VM. You need to allow this to happen, so click "Not at this time" to the internet search question, then "Install the software automatically" to the driver location choice.
WARNING: on some hosts the protection level will be set so high that attempts to install the USB filter driver are automatically blocked without even prompting you. You'll never get USB working on such a host; you must have the host configured to at least prompt you when asked to install a device driver.


5.Once the host filter driver has been installed, I like to unplug the USB device and plug it back in again. Now the guest should grab the device smoothly and you should be ready to rock 'n roll.
The procedure outlined above works best with generic USB mass storage devices, because all modern guest OS's' have native support for these and hence doesn't need you to install any further drivers. I suggest that you practice these steps with a USB thumb drive, and get the procedure down pat before you tackle devices that need additional drivers, such as the Huawei E3131.

Great news Richard - something's going right for once! Files are being uploaded as we speak, but don't forget we're still in the stone age here in rural West Wales, still waiting for BT to get their a**e in gear and get our Super Fast Fibre rolled out (2 years late already), despite all the Mula they've had and spent So with our 6Mbps upload/download speeds it will be a while! Currently Disk 1 at 33%!! Time to get my bearskin on and go hunting me thinks.

Marc, Getting confused here - are we still talking about Citroen Service docbackup or Diagnostics from Easy? If Docbackup can I download directly to my PC (running Win7) and unpack/install from there, or does it have to be through the "virtual" route? Excuse my ignorance but not seen/used virtual stuff before!
