what sort of psi does that put out? the video linked one is 5psi or so - and whilst a noticeable increase lower down , as the revs climbed the `hair dryers` didn't have much use

Hard to find even when googling what's been done before. I've seen the work that DP engineering have done in the Netherlands with the use of a turbocharger, impressive however would prefer NA mods though.

Not sure about the electric superchargers, aren't they more concept then reality?

Cams and head porting seem to be the way to go then...as well as better manifold/exhaust design.

It all seems a road not very often travelled which is always ends up being more costly as you've got no one else's mistakes to learn from!

There are cheaper/easier cars to modify than a Xantia, unless your a hooligan with money who wants to do it "cus it's there".

Personally, when I do it will be exhaust manifolds, head/valves, remapping and induction as most of that can be done on a spare engine/off the car and with a DIY approach/spend.
(it helps I have two spare engines but I need to learn how to TIG weld first)

It's amazing what can be fairly easily achieved by tuning the TCT and a good one, as I can testify from having driven one, goes like stink...

But is HORRID to drive unless you are a 100% hooligan 100% of the time :)

....I drove Phil Hunts (chipped, fuel pump, injectors etc) on a test.....yes it goes like stink but a very short power band, not my cuppa tea

Yes, I do not like short power bands... doesn't give you any confidence in overtaking.

I would like a V6 for sure but wanted to know how a bit more power can be tweeked out of them without having to break the bank, but it looks as if a lot of parts will need to be made from scratch without anything to buy 'off the shelf', unless we are missing aftermarket gear that is available from France/Netherlands etc..

Well I have driven the car again today after making sure the oil leak was cured.

All I can say is it does go much much better. I has a very quick response now on the throttle and is a whole lot smoother. The flat spot I had has also gone :)

This could be new plugs as much as the flow work ? who knows ?....all I can really say is that whatever it is it is a far better drive and feels like a "better car" than before by quite some margin.

( the old plugs were also twin electrode (NGK) and showed no deterioration and were gapped the same.)

VERY VERY happy

Went out again this afternoon Jim after I had cleaned out the rear wheel arch sill end plug and refitted the new one.
The car goes like a bloo###y train, I am actually very surprised by the effect.

you really need to stop talking about electric superchargers , waste of money and looks silly. ;) bolt something proper to the engine or let professionals port it .

Not going to happen soon I agree....but the big manufactures are starting to test them and are getting some good results....it is all down to batteries and motors and these are developing fast.

Do not think that they are what you see on Ebay and YouTube

I know formula 1 has electric superchargers that work ... albeit only for a few seconds at the time. I think there still are a few good years before there will be anything worth putting in your car. Thus i dont understand why you are considering it unless u got a very long perspective =)

I am not considering it in anyway.
Theoretical : it is really the only way of getting forced induction on a Xantia V6 ACTIVA (if it becomes available) because a turbo will never fit without serious butchery which I will never do to this car or any V6 Activa.
......only the exhaust and air flow needs/can be done as to be honest I do not think the car needs much more power, it is not a race car and never really can be as it is to heavy and FWD.

It does not need to be a race car to have a few extra horses. Being heavy and fwd does not disqualify the car from getting love in the ompha-vrooom department. On the contrary being heavy should qualify it for getting some more. Admit it, you are getting old ;)
As to front wheel drive ... here in Norway and especially in Sweden Turbo Saabs with 250 + horses are quite common, and trust me when I say they do put the power to the ground despite being badgers.

On the other hand not wanting to butcher that lovely engine compartment of the V6 to fit a charger I understand completely. It looks lovely as it is, and yours especially.

In the UK I'd argue strongly that we need no more power and go than an Activa has in stock form. Roads are so busy and speed regulations are so stringent with low speed limits in many places that excess power is totally pointless...

I find on average, on the roads I use regularly, that 50 mph is about the best speed you can hope for amongst the traffic and limits...

Only if you habitually go in for track days would I see any need for enhanced performance...

My V6 conversion is for the engineering challenge only along with the smoothness and refinement it brings ;)
