Failed MOT

Post by mooseshaver »

Front suspension bushes.
Hopefully parts will in and fitted Monday.
It's also having an alternator belt as that's been squealing and they have found its cracked.

Mine did.....Drive shaft boots......Lots on struts

Rear roll bar bushes will be the next...EVERYBODY should check theirs.
They powder coat the bar then bond the bush to that. The Powder coating breaks (no s**t Shirlock) into shards and destroys the rubber. You have to buy the Bar+Bush as they do not supply the bush as a part....£450+VAT !

Yes, but you move around in your car everything but the kitchen sink ... no wonder then ... :D ... and your cars have slightly higher mileage than mine ... so, I'll be sure to follow shortly on some of those things ... :D

Nothing to do with weight....they put a brittle coating on a flexible part and then bonded onto the brittle coating a part that tries to rotate.....

Yep - guess it would take something majorly disastrous like potential loss of life before they make a mod - all down to risk assessment v cost. Unlike the TPMS valve issue, where mine shot out at speed like a bullet and I mean the whole thing just leaving a hole where the valve was! That could of killed a small child if it happened in town. Needless to say they changed the materials on these I believe and replaced the lot without question with the new type!

Am I a little cynical in suspecting that it has been carefully designed to a) look nice and black and shiny when the car is new, b) last little more than the warranty period, thus earning Citroen a huge profit on what is basically a very simple part?

Looks like a new opportunity for Elastomer EU in Lithuania?

Are you talking about the C5 X7 in general, or just the anti-roll bar bush ? :rofl2: :rofl2:

Not really a safety issue, Jags, LandRovers are the same and I would think most makers too.

The difference these days is the "Bonded Bush" which are trouble free for the period of the Reps Lease Hire.....

Is it possible to remove the knackered bush and retrofit a traditional one? Seems to have a clamp around it on servicebox!
