C5 HPi (2001) High pressure fuel pump.... Please help!

Post by c5hpi »

Hi everyone!
Would any of you have an idea where I could buy a replacement (New, Used or reconditioned) High Pressure Fuel Pump (1920AR) for my C5 2.0 HPi Exclusive (2001)? I just bought the car in Spain, and with less than 500km done in it I've been told by Citroën that the pump needs replacing and that they can't source one any longer... I've tried everywhere I can find it listed online, and posted to a number of breaker listing sites, but no luck so far. Any suggestions/recommendation would really be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I've had a look on the service documentation and it won't even bring this part number up. I was looking to see if the part has been superseded with another. Can you PM me with your VIN number as it makes searching a lot easier!

The high pressure pump is driven by the camshaft and is shown on the page with the fuel injectors.
I believe that these are very difficult to obtain now, and I have not heard of any substitute. They were also used on the Peugeot 406 with the same engine, so may be more of those at the breakers.

Yes, I noticed that when looking for the blighter! :-D Yet, for both the petrol models excluding the (3.0 V6) that part number isn't listed with the injection kit that I can see - plenty of 1920 codes but none with AR. It won't even bring 1920 AR up in the parts search, hence why I wanted to check on the right diagram for the vehicle. :!:

Thank you both, really appreciate the help! I've just PM'd you with the VIN number, but also hopefully have a lead on one via another thread I posted - thanks for the advice on the 406 too, will be messaging breakers about those in the morning too!
Cheers!!

Well that brought up the part number, and engine code, but hasn't helped with replacements so far. I've fired off an enquiry with BBA Reman to see if they can do anything with the original. Looking at some other pumps, they are a horrendous price in excess of £500! Have you considered replacing the car?

Where in North Wales?

I have a C5 HPi in my driveway as spares for my C5 HDi so the engine is useless to me. I bought the car some years ago as non-runner. The owner had run out of petrol and when refilled wouldn't start; in fact never started again so they gave up and sold it for spares. The high pressure pumps seem to be particularly fragile on these beasts so there's every chance it's no good but you're welcome to come along and take it off. If you want me to take it off I'd have to charge you for my time but otherwise it's yours for the taking.

I'm away on holiday soon so you'd have to be quick - this weekend in fact.

I've been away from the forum for a while but I've taken a look back here recently as I've been considering getting a C5 X7. Are they really that much smaller inside?
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

It is happening a LOT with LOTS of cars not just Citroen.

The EU have agreed to allow manufactures to stop spare parts production after only 5 YEARS !.......lets hear a "WAY TO GO" for the environmentalists

Hi Paul off topic but yes I think the X7 is smaller.. I am not really tall but I don't think my seat goes back as far as my old c5.. and when it's that far back there isn't there leg room in the back anyway

I have both cars so can make some comparison pics..

Yeah, replacing it is really next on the agenda if I can't get hold of the pump - I just moved to Spain with my family, and the used car market here is a lot more expensive than back home, so went with this C5 as it had relatively low mileage and seemed pretty good for the price... only did 500KM in it before it broke down though, so really want to try and get it repaired before I scrap the car and write off the cash... I really should have learned more about them before buying! :)

I was about to post something about this however it (was) 10 years *after* production of that model had finished, at least from what I recall. Its sad its changed. :(

Do said environmentalists not realise that quite a lot of the 'pollution' in a cars total footprint is during its manufacture rather than its use ? ](*,) :-k

Having said that I bet manufacturers were not unhappy at this as it helps to sell 'more new'

I think they lobbied for it actually....so reduce pollution from old cars and to make the EU more competitive.

(read sell more cars and other bollocks)

It says a lot for the 'throw away society' - and yes, I'm really going to go out and buy a £30k battery on wheels with a 100 recharge cycle with no charging points anywhere. When they run on 'rain' power I'll consider it.

There are a few different HPI Pumps Paul - is this the 1920AR?

No idea. The car is a 51 reg Exclusive Estate if that helps narrow it down. A fairly early one I think.
