You obviously don't drive like me or where I drive. I get around 60 mpg driving from here to Exeter but once I get into the town it drops rapidly, but I seldom go into towns.

My overall average for local and long distance work is a bit over 50 mpg in the summer and a bit under in the winter but I don't do many short journeys because we are not near anywhere.

All you need are lots of hills and winding roads and it will soon drop. In the Welsh countryside I cannot get anymore than an average of 43 MPG. On a long run on the flats with careful driving I've had mine into the upper 50s until I got back to Wales again! :-D
One other thing - it doesn't help every now and then having to drive in 4th gear to keep the engine revs between 2000-3000 RPM to make sure the DPF regenerates - especially with a 6 speed manual box 8-[

I don't have one of those evil things so I don't have to worry, 8-) I keep below 2000 rpm all the while I can. If my wife or son use the car the fuel consumption drops considerably. :?

Lucky s*d! But then again - when I think of how many times I've been asphyxiated by one of these things - I go into tree-hugging mode :-D
