harryp wrote:Hi Marc, did remove all software and directory's. Think it requires the register altering too, as it does not ask for any install codes but just goes straight in; and goes from disk 1 to disk 3. Annoying.
Harry - it won't ask for another installation code, as this is kept separately and is based on your hardware setup of your PC. When uninstalling, it doesn't completely remove all the registry entries.
It is usually a good idea to back up the registry before installing SEDRE and Docbackup. Then if you ever need to reinstall the software you can uninstall the programmes and restore the registry to a pre-installation state - assuming you only use this for sedre / docbackup and haven't installed any other hardware drivers / software since, otherwise you will have to reinstall these again too.

That's another reason why I keep these 2 programmes separate and off my main PC by running them in a VM environment. At the risk of being hung :-D dare I suggest you try reinstalling Windows 7?, as it would indicate a corrupt install or registry. Here's an extract for Windows 7 procedure that might help - apologies in advance if you already know all this:-
  • To install Windows 7 using the Custom option without formatting the hard disk
Turn on your computer so that Windows starts normally, then do one of the following:
If you downloaded Windows 7, browse to the installation file you downloaded, and then double-click it.
If you have a Windows 7 installation disc, insert the disc into your computer. Setup should start automatically. If it doesn't, click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click Computer, double-click your DVD drive to open the Windows 7 installation disc, and then double-click setup.exe.
If you've downloaded Windows 7 installation files onto a USB flash drive, insert the drive into your computer. Setup should start automatically. If it doesn't, click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click Computer, double-click the drive, and then double-click setup.exe.
On the Install Windows page, follow any instructions that are displayed, and then click Install now.
On the Get important updates for installation page, we recommend getting the latest updates to help ensure a successful installation and to help protect your computer against security threats. You need an Internet connection to get installation updates.
On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license terms, and then click Next.
On the Which type of installation do you want? page, click Custom.
On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, choose the partition containing your previous version of Windows (this is often the computer's C: drive), and then click Next.
In the Windows.old dialog box, click OK.
Follow the instructions to finish installing Windows 7, which include naming your computer and setting up an initial user account.
It's just that going through the registry and finding and deleting all the relevant entries in inherently fraught with problems - far better to start from a clean system - and once you have applied all the Windows updates and drivers, do a registry backup and save it somewhere off your PC.

Just heard back from Sharon - see extract from her email below - Harry / Jack (or any others possibly waiting) if you email Sharon at [email protected] and say you're from the French Car Forum, she will keep some of the kits back for you until you place your order.
Hi Marc I've just off the phone with the courier and it looks like Monday the van had been held up.in Edinburgh, he says there may be a possibility tomorrow but definitely Monday.
If you tell me how many you need I can keep them.back for you as I have a few orders for them.

Marc, I note you do not mention data backup. Do I read you correctly that I should reinstall windows in a new virtual environment for use of D/B and Sedre exclusively?

Harry - no it's not essential it's a matter of choice.
If you are using your Windows PC for other things too then best try an uninstall of the programs before reinstalling anything. Assuming you have uninstalled both DocBackup and Sedreac from Control Panel first and rebooted, here are the key other things you need to do before trying a new installation:

Backup the Registry:
  • Be very careful you only delete the following keys and take a backup of the registry first just in case:
To backup the Registry, from your start menu select 'RUN' and type in 'regedit'.
Make sure your cursor is at the top of the tree with Computer selected.
Right click 'Computer' and choose 'Export'.
Ensure 'All' is selected (which is the default) and then choose location to store it safely.
Once done, the following keys need to be deleted from the Windows registry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BackupAC]]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DocBackupAC]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SEDREAC]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SDR]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SDR]
Exit the registry.

Then ensure you have removed the DocBackupAC and DocBackupJRE folders from your “Program Files” or “Programs” folder depending on your Windows version.
Reboot your PC.
Then try installing again - this time you will likely be asked for an activation key - (if you don't have one let me know).
Hope this helps - Good luck :-D

Just for info, Sharon from Easydisgnostics has just emailed to say limited Lexia stocks are back in this morning, she has additionally emailed members who contacted them. So anyone wanting one from them needs to be a big quick!

Having been documented for some time now that diagbox will only run on 32bit software, what on earth do you make of this. Note, no mention of a VM!!

Hi Harry - Diagbox will run on 64 Bit operating systems that's not the issue, but the underlying software - Peugeot Planet / Lexia has issues communicating with older cars (pre-2006 I think). It all depends on the car (s) you will want to use it on whether just for your own car or for other people / future vehicles. For best compatibility and fewer issues, I would recommend keeping it on a 32 Bit version of Windows - XP (although no longer supported and not advised if you are using the laptop for anything other than diagnostics), Windows 7 - works fine and even Windows 8.1. Whilst others have installed on it Windows 10, some have run into problems later on, so it depends on how much faffing about you want to do.

Having trouble getting it to install on Win 10 64 bit.... Just double click on the install file from Magic ISO and it runs the installation, get to the activation page, enter the details, but then it says Activation failed. Have tried with and without internet on, but same result. The only thing I haven't tried is installation all the way with the net off. First time I tried I used the wrong password, maybe it has got that in registry somewhere. Or maybe I am doing the wrong thing with Magic ISO, having never used it before!

Actually, thinking about it, I perhaps need to install under a virtual 32-bit machine(*), as my Sister is still running an 02 Xsara, so that would need Lexia not Diagbox....

* about which I have NO idea!!

Hi Richard. Using any ISO mounting software should work. Once the ISO is mounted and a drive letter has been assigned, you should be able to run it from there. I always installed mine with the Internet on during installation. Regarding the activation - it depends on where you got your version from and the details / passwords.
Regarding your second point - Running it in a VM on Windows 10 will require the Professional, Educational or Enterprise Version of Windows 10 and the 64 bit OS version to use Hyper V. Just make sure your system has at least 4GB memory but more is recommended as Hyper V shares this and needs enough to provide the applications with enough to run and all the other processes! Also, check that your CPU provides Virtualisation technology and hardware DEP support. You'll also need a legit licence for the Windows 7 you'll be running under Hyper V. One thing I should mention - if you have already upgraded to the free version of Windows 10 as part of Microsoft's offer, you will already have a digital key registered with Microsoft's servers. Therefore if we are talking about a laptop here, you can easily downgrade back to Windows 7 / 8 that you were using before without penalty and install Diagbox back on this. In the future if you decided you wanted to remove Diagbox and upgrade the laptop back to Windows 10, Microsoft would still recognise your digital key.

Personally, I bought a cheapish laptop (about £70) from a UK refurbisher on e**y (I can send give you the link), where I was able to request a 32 Bit version of Windows 7 instead of the 64 Bit they ship it with, complete with a legit. licence key on the PC (so you can use any Windows 7 32 Bit Media to reinstall in future if you need to).
I then used this to install Diagbox with no issues at all. I don't use the laptop for anything else, (recommended) as Diagbox and all its underlying software programs create directories all over the place (a very untidy installation routine). As you have older cars you will be using it on, Windows 10 64 Bit won't cut the mustard. It's all down to the hardware on the older cars and communication and compatibility issues. Some other previous posters thought it was working ok for a while, then ran into activation issues again using Windows 10 64 Bit. I only run Windows 10 64 Bit on my desktop PC and not on the Lexia laptop. It keeps everything simpler!

Cheers Marc

Not sure I understood most of it! This is a relatively new laptop, running a Core i5 processor and 8GB (I think!) RAM so it should cope easily. It came with Win 8 which upgraded itself to Win 10 as soon as it was turned on. Pretty sure it's the Pro edition. Don't have a pukka copy of Win 7, but I do have a copy of Vista that Diagbox was happily running on on the old laptop (before the Graphics chip ate itself for the 3rd time!!) so could try that. I have thought about buying a Toughbook before for Diagbox use - they are pretty cheap on the bay.

I suppose it's all down to whether you want to use your new laptop for other things apart from Diagbox. I personally use the cheaper laptop with Win 7 32 just for diagnostics and am about to install DocBackup and Sedreac on that now too. DocBackup and Sedreac are also currently running under Hyper V on my Desktop as I use this a lot for the Forum and it won't run properly under Chrome since version 45 as they are no longer supporting Java applets; it also wont run on newer versions of Internet explorer and Edge).

Regarding Hyper V setup Richard - there are guides out there, here's one: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2087 ... -10-a.html
but it can still be a faff. Might be worth the investment in a cheaper laptop (you can always get a new battery for them cheap enough) and have a bit less hassle unless you're feeling adventurous!!

Hi Jack, lift up the centre console, clear any gubbins out the way, then towards the front you will see a rubber protective covering that you need to carefully lift off from the top lip. It will lift off and then you can carefully pull it back slightly to expose the port. Note: make sure you don't have a USB flash drive plugged in first otherwise you might damage it when you pull back the rubber sheath.
