Xantia V6 Activa --- Performance Engine Upgrades
Hello All,
Just wondered what options are out there to unleash some more ponies.
On paper the engine performance figures look great but the Activa is a heavy car and even with the 3.0L V6 could still do with more power in my opinion.
I am not thinking of major engine mods, but just simple things like induction, reprogramming of ECU (if possible?) etc...??
Would be good to hear what has been/can be done.
Thanks.

Re: Xantia V6 Activa --- Performance Engine Upgrades
Having looked at this a little recently, I would say there is little to be gained unless the exhaust manifolds, down pipes and exhaust system are worked on.....
The manifolds, esp the forward one with its short pipe extension is a horrible set up.
I wonder about a re-map, the 406 coupé guys seem to like that but it is not often you see the print-outs as proof (and really needs a decat/free flow type) as there is still a large restriction.
Electric supercharger for $1500 ??

Hi Alasdair,
Thanks for the feedback.
Is there anyone offering aftermarket improved manifolds?
Any experience with ecu chip tuning companies? This looks too good to be true....

I just hate the principle of "add on chips".....don't really know why but they always struck me as a short cut.
I may be wrong with a less complicated engine like the E9J..........??

This is one of the biggest problems....parts 11-12 in particular

They are. That one has two wires connected to the MAF. It'll fool it into increasing the mixture. It won't make much, if any difference. If you could get 30bhp just by doing that, we'd all be doing it.Stickyfinger wrote:I just hate the principle of "add on chips".....don't really know why but they always struck me as a short cut.
A proper, remapped chip in the ECU, or even a piggyback chip, properly done, will give reasonable result, but in my experience, remapping a N/A engine doesn't generate much anyway, without a lot of hardware work - cams, head work, exhaust changes and so on. On a forced-induction motor, of course, it's a lot easier..

Exactly.....they have to breathe, both in (not to bad) but also out.
The Renault Clio V6 Sport has a lot of work on both the induction system (twin throttle bodies/chambers ) and heads (VVT and combustion chamber, thin gasket) , short matched SS exhausts as well.
Forced induction is (space) only really possible with the developments in high power motors making electric superchargers entirely possible if not cheep yet.

Veroboard is still about!!!xantia_v6 wrote:I have not seen such high-tech manufacturing processes since.... ...1973! Veroboard no less!DS21 wrote:Here you go....http://www.tuning-wizard.com/index.php? ... ts_id=2912 ...
I'd love to know what 'chip' that is..
I suspect it's just a DIL resistor pack...
Interesting that the 'chip' for the Ford Fiesta looks identical...
Some tuners of the ES9 go the twin turbo route... The engine certainly seems strong enough to take a good deal more power..
Another option may be a supercharger..
Both of the forced induction options will need custom injection/ignition from something like Megasquirt...
And relocation of the battery...

Re: Xantia V6 Activa --- Performance Engine Upgrades
IIRC electric supercharging doesn't really work
a panel filter is about the best way to help the engine breathe a bit more - without throwing fast road cams , reflow ports/ larger butterflies etc at it

THAT is not a supercharger it is a hair dryerHarlequin wrote:IIRC electric supercharging doesn't really work
