I think a common sense approach is needed - on the X7 there's more light coming out of a gnats arse than from the reversing lights on this model. It's a matter of finding an LED that's not like the Blackpool Illuminations, but will give more light than the standard bulb given the reflector housing issues as mentioned by Richard. Many do refer to these as LED lights - when they are not at all.
On my previous MkII C5 I did replace the reversing bulbs with LEDs and that made a hell of a difference without being too bright. No issues with the MOT, but those were early days of LED technology and if I remember the bulbs were the glass bead type that looked like a lump of Broccoli (!) Maybe the rear lenses were better, having that black / white / smokey glass, but whatever they've done the design is atrocious for practical use in seeing where you are reversing - even with sensors. Not only that, but the tailgate housing is a nightmare to get into without a) being houdini and b)cracking all the plastic tabs off the housing. Not much room there either for any large type bulbs as they have used those piddly H21Ws.

This type is what I use, they not to bright but work well without any blinding problems.

I have them fitted in the tail gate lamps/brake light (red ones) but normal ones in the wing rears to allow the correct scatter.

I like the difference in light "type" between brakes and tail bulbs as LED's do penetrate the dark well.

I do not sit stopped at lights with the peddle down either :)

As you should stop reversing if you see a car coming, brake, out of gear, I cannot see that they would blind anybody anyway however bright they are when fitted in a lamp cluster.

All modern video cameras are sensitive to near infra red, although they sometimes deliberately filter it out.
I'd experiment by pointing a TV remote control at the camera. If it shows a glaring limage of the remote's LED, it can see IR. In that case, all you have to do is fit IR lights to the car (either use security lights or retro-fit lamps of your choice with IR LEDs) wired in parallel with the reversing lights.
Plenty of illumination, no danger of blindng others!

No need to worry about MOT - there is no check of reversing lights in the UK MOT. I could do with a brighter one in the 307 - at first I thought it was not working, but then when I looked it is working, but is behind quite a heavy filter, and makes no real discernable light really!

It just so happens I already booked MOT way before ordering these bulbs last night, otherwise I think I would of fitted them just to see if there were any issues, as these have 30 SMD chips in. They seem to be the brightest in the listings and I only went for these as the pictures of the others shown lit without a cover seemed quite pathetic. They probably wouldn't have been much brighter than the filament H21Ws. Thanks for the MOT advice though, I might look st the tail lights now, as said before, it's always the resr right that's going!

As promised, here's the before and after images of the reversing lights after I replaced the weedy H21Ws with these LED replacements:

Needless to say you won't need your sunglasses to look at the top pictures! The new bulbs on the bottom pictures definitely provide a crisper, whiter light/ than the yellowish glow of the original H21Ws. When I removed the old bulbs, the glass was starting to look a bit blackened, so that probably didn't help. I won't bother with any night pictures unless anyone wants to see them due to the lens flare.

On another point - what ever possessed the designers to leave 4 out of the 10 lens segments blank? A typical French tea break and then they forgot??

Hello

I try find solution for reversing camera in my C5 X7 and RT6 navi.

I have RT6 with video and camera input, but still don't have image from camera. BSI configuration is OK. Probably problem is with AAS module (parking module) - my don't have reversing camera option. I try find right version of AAS module.

So, could someone send me photo of Your AAS module. It is in right hand side directly next to the spare wheel in the boot compartment.

Thanks in advance,

Piti

How do you know that you have a RT6 with video input?

That's two different things ... RT6 never had a video input (the only PSA unit that had it was the NG4 - 3D Navidrive) ... you're probably missing a configuration in the BSI of your car which triggers the reverse input selection. can't remember the exact location, but somewhere there's a huge list of parking options (no sensors, rear only, rear & front, rear & front & measuring space, video only, etc ...)
